British Columbia@lemmy.ca•B.C. witches take to the waters of Semiahmoo Bay
3·9 days agoCaught a similar event on Alouette river last year (but earlier, September-ish iirc). Interesting to see, if we somehow knew about that one, we may have joined

Vancouver@lemmy.ca•Vancouver - What are your plans for this weekend / next week? [week 40]
2·12 days agoProbably pop to NorVan, haven’t been there during the summer. Either walk along Capilano river or Lynn valley.
I believe hatchery may be closed already but anyone know whether that affects the parking in case it gets busy up by the Cleveland dam?

3·14 days agoThat company is a shit show lol. When I looked at their board/advisory board it screamed political bribes through various connections… sorry I mean lobbying. And their actual operations probably suck ass if their HR team is anything to go by (personal experience)

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.ca•Do you have a scene from film/tv that reliably makes you cry if you intentionally watch it?

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.ca•Do you have a scene from film/tv that reliably makes you cry if you intentionally watch it?
4·16 days agoNope, his own mum in her dream, not the evil Mom.
Edit… That one hits harder for me than Seymour, for reasons…

11·16 days ago5h+ and not one mention of Futurama…
There’s at least 2 that I can name off the top of my head and there’s probably 2-3 more.
Seymour waiting for Fry.
Fry talking to mum, as a reward after the defeat of brains.
Just listing them brings up that hard to swallow feeling/emotion.

Canada@lemmy.ca•1.2M British Columbians have no family doctor - even as B.C. NDP touts successes
71·18 days agoIf you can’t get a good one it’s not even worth trying. So I wonder if that’s the case for some people.
We didn’t have one for 5-6 years, finally I signed up for one and the guy sucks ass, so I just use whoever is available at the walk-in clinic. Even then only 1 out of 5-6 doctors there gives a shit, and 1-2 do depending in their mood.
My wife didn’t bother signing up with one after I told her my experience.

AskACanadian@lemmy.ca•What is it like to live in the territories?English
4·19 days agoDidn’t live there but looked into moving there (to Whitehorse), so this is only from personal research and talking to recruiter;
Beautiful nature to enjoy.
Relatively cheaper housing (if your job pays enough).
Smaller communities (good or bad depending on your preference).
Somewhat limited choice/somewhat expesive general cost of living (groceries/household stuff etc and not easy shipping).
Higher likelihood of depression/burnout, though some decent employers “try” to offset it with few extra vacation days or even, IIRC, like 1 continental flight (including Carribean?) covered for vacation. Don’t remember whether that flight thing included partner or not or if it was a specific thing for Whitehorse/Yukon as a whole.Edit… completely forgot, wildfires can be a real fucking problem, not just a thing you see in the news (speaking as a metro Van person)

IIRC he kept using his middle name, it’s only through another colleague we found out

Yes, but they will be on the shelves late® it seems (Maybe different for eastern provinces?). In BC I only saw them late August/early Sept this year I think and since it’s end of the season for other suppliers, no good deals.
Mexico is usually already June if not earlier, even some deals to be had, usually found them to be easier to spot a good one and on average were better than US ones so I’ve been avoiding US even before turd2.Edit: FWIW I mostly either see Mexican or some other foreign workers on farms, so I have my doubts they are treated particularly well. Ive seen some of the accommodations they have on farms (like those portable container size boxes at constructions, foremen? use as offices), they usually go to shop in groups, so I guess not much freedom or high enough pay to do what they want. I therefore don’t feel super inclined to buy only “Canadian” in that department. Meanwhile there are plenty of mansions being built up at various farms around lower mainland…

Canada@lemmy.ca•Airport privatization would cost workers and passengers, CLC report warns
5·27 days agoDunno about the other airports, but what makes it particularly idiotic at YVR is that a lot of extra construction has been happening over the last few years (parking garages it would appear?). And you just know that any private owner will make parking costs sky high and government will see fuckall profit from that investment. Sure they could make very specific contracts with private owner about that, but this is government we’re talking about, buddy of a buddy will be raking it in.
Edit some ragespelling

Vancouver@lemmy.ca•Vancouver - What are your plans for this weekend / next week? [week 36]
2·1 month agoLast one of these for the summer.
https://www.coquitlam.ca/803/Summer-Concert-SeriesNo idea if it’s any good but out of the ones we’ve randomly seen, there was only one we didn’t enjoy. Genre doesn’t really matter to us, and free is free ¯\(ツ)/¯
That sounds about right.
FWIW sourdough is not terrible after freezing either, as long as your freezer isn’t a moisture sucking drying POS (looking at you home rental fridge freezer), but can’t quite compare to fresh. When we used to buy these in store, we’d generally buy half or quarter of a loaf to eat it while it’s fresh (half was about size of your 1 loaf).
I figured out the freezing part when I had to live on my own and deal with shopping and school, so convenience was necessary, whilst not overpaying for groceries.

Don’t forget also allowing a fake posting of 10 Downing Street as available accommodation, allowing fake reviews on it and taking payments for booking it LOL
