100%. This is exactly why I switched my home server over to NixOS and would struggle to go back. I used to reinstall all the time but now there really isn’t any need to, since I can just look at my configuration.nix file and know everything that’s installed, running and configured on my system. Whereas using any other distro I’m like WHAT ON EARTH IS RUNNING ON HERE?

This week I realised my Mastodon instance was severely out of date because I was using nix flakes and didn’t autoupdate but now that’s been fixed 😄

I’m currently looking to connect an NVMe SSD to a Pi 4 I have in a differences location to finally have proper 3-2-1 backups. I’m trying to find a NVMe to USB adapter that will work though.

You can use pixelfed with the same account, but to do this you will have to go onto your mastodon instance and follow a pixelfed accounts from there and they will appear in your Mastodon timeline. Here is a little explanation of the “log in with Mastodon” option.

For me the biggest speedup in my workflow was not through actually cutting down on the build time but rather using cargo watch. With cargo watch -x run, it automatically rebuilds and runs on any change so by the time I switch to the terminal it’s almost completely ready.

Ahhh thank you, by the looks of the thread you linked it seems that there’s no way of doing it without manually copying database tables over. I did think that may be the case, so I’ll just migrate it the normal way then. Thanks for the help!

That does seem like a good option for my use case, interestingly they note that no matter what I switch to I should change the subdomain:

It’s not supported across the Fediverse to switch between implementations on the same domain. This means that if you run GoToSocial on example.org, you’ll run into federation issues if you try to switch to a different implementation like Pleroma/Akkoma, Misskey/Calckey etc.

That doesn’t look promising for moving the account without migrating because then I couldn’t maintain my username.

Tuta (previously Tutanota) because it’s private, runs on 100% renewable energy, very affordable if you want to use a custom domain, has end-to-end encryption between Tuta emails and it’s email clients are open source including a very nice app on F-Droid

Overall I think Alex handled this situation really well, listened to what people wanted and come to something that everyone’s fine with.

I used to use VSCodium (pretty much just VSCode without the closed source binaries and telemetry) but now I completely use Helix and Zellij.
