Spare me your IT mumbo jumbo, just give it to me straight
It supports up to 1.5TB of RAM so maybe I’ll grab a little extra just to be sure.
Right, so I’m up to:
Will this be enough to run Plex?
Well, thats the weekend over. Like a racist bogan at an Anzac ceremony, that’s a lot of booing and hissing from me.
To lament the end of 3 days of sitting around in my underpants playing Fortnite, here’s a Song Of The Day:
Shadow Of The Moon - Blackmores Night
It’s labelled as Folk Rock, which I guess it is? Much slower and calm then what you’re probably thinking though. Nice soft one to listen to as we mope and whinge about having to go back to work tomorrow for a WHOLE WEEK in one go.
Like what?
Korea has a few (Hyundai, Kia / same, same) but the only Japanese options are [P]HEV or the Toyota BZ4X which is… ugly… if it didn’t have a Toyota badge I don’t think they’d sell any of them. Few old Leafs still hanging in there, but if you want to go more than 100k at a time that’s them ruled out.
Can’t speak for other countries, but in Australia BYD is smashing it.
They represent incredible value for money and it’s not like we’ve got a local industry to protect - our conservative government made sure of that.
We’re already the world’s dumping ground for shit vehicles that don’t meet emissions standards, so having a non-Elon Musk EV alternative is something people are grabbing with both hands. We bought a BYD Seal Performance for $70k AUD a little over a year ago. For that money you get an incredibly comfortable sedan that does 500k on a charge, costs about $1 per 100km to run, and does 0-100 in 3.8 seconds.
EU vehicles are crazy overpriced by comparison, and because they try and position Mercedes / BMW / VW as luxury brands here the servicing and repair costs are through the roof. Part availability also sucks, with everything being a 6+ week lead time. We’ve owned European vehicles on several occasions and never again.
I used to like Ubuntu LTS because it was just Debian that wasn’t quite as out of date, but more recent installs seem to suggest that you only get all the patches if you subscribe to their paid service? Not sure what the fine print is on that.
This box was turned on, Nextcloud installed, and never touched since (side from apt updates).

Like every other announcement of something that’s %100$ definitely going to happen from this bloke, I’ll believe it when I see it.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me every quarter since 2016…
Seems like everything Tesla announces is a vague hand wave and a “trust me” of late.
My personal feeling is that they’ve underestimated other manufacturer’s progress and are making announcements too far ahead of their ability to deliver them just to appear like they’re still competitive.
This is my favourite time of year because its all public holidays and people away, but without the stupid frantic behaviour of Christmas (“I need it done BY CHRISTMAS” is our favourite November catch phrase).
This is what the Christmas/New Year period should be like. Just… people stop working for a bit. No build up, no frantic tidying of intrays and emptying of outboxes… just a work -> no work jump cut.
So Wednesday just didnt happen huh Brisbot?
Yo momma so ugly, when she bought a Tesla the stock price went up
… This is a hilarious reference to the fact TSLA is a meme stock that makes no goddamn sense.
I’m at about 35TB so far… 25 on Plex, and 10 on Nextcloud.
Somewhere near 100 will give some good headroom to grow in to.
Side note: where Brisbot at? We’re missing a day
I have my eye on a 120TB array 🫣
Why the fuck does Aussie zone block so many instances? You guys okay out there?
I’m not entirely sure we’re missing out on all that much with a few porn instances missing.
Proxmox to run a VM hosting Nextcloud for work, and another VM hosting Plex for friends and family.
Currently both bare metal machines and both out of space, and old enough to need replacing anyway.
Also, todays pupdate… This is Poppet, and she had a 12th birthday. This meant she got to wear the special birthday hat, and got to eat cupcakes.
Also everyone else got cupcakes too cause that’s how it works, but only she got to wear the hat.
I bought a 45RU rack and a Dell 730xd server.
Next purchase is a MD3460 storage array.
I have no prior IT experience.
Gotta start somewhere, though possibly I should have tried baby steps first.
In my opinion every week should be a three day week. Four days is the perfect amount of break time per week.
