Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What differences have you seen between Reddit and Lemmy? Has anyone else had any experience with subreddit overreach (bots, biased filtering) and do you find Lemmy to be a productive alternative?
2·20 小时前Yes I agree completely. I was using DuckDuckGo for like 10 years but it’s gotten to the point where it’s genuinely unusable. Even if AI turned off, basically all the results are AI slop blog posts. I was basically impossible to find an answer to any question. I’ve switch to Ecosia and it’s noticeably better, but still, this is a problem every search engine is grappling with right now.
AI slop is like toxic sludge that polluting the online commons. Places like Lemmy are one of the last intact ecosystems that haven’t been destroyed by the sludge.
Interesting, thanks for the explanation
Which is pretty par for the course so far as scientific classifications go.
Well yes I don’t necessarily disagree with you there. But there are some cases where it’s more obvious than others. A good example would be ring species: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_species
I’d say planets are about the same level of arbitrariness as far as scientific categories go

Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•Arizona Has Nested Daylight Savings Time
1·6 小时前Yeah Manitoba was the trend setter, BC and Alberta (which I forgot to mention) followed after the Manitoba NDP made the announcement

I mean that these descriptions are somewhat arbitrary. Roughly round is not a very precise delineation, there will be edge cases where it’s not clear which category they fall into

World News@quokk.au•Hong Kong democracy campaigner Joshua Wong handed another 10 years in jail
231·1 天前Not the exact situation you are discussing, but: Members of the united Conservative Party in Alberta met with the US to discuss Alberta being a sovereign country. Canada has not sent any of these people to jail for extended periods of time.
Also let’s consider the fact that Joshua Wong is campaigning for democracy.
I know you’re probably gonna come back with some tankie vitriol. I don’t even know why I both responding to you, ur probably just a shill working overseas for some Russian bot farm or something. But maybe this comment will give some context for anyone reading this.
I am not going to respond to you after this, because I’ve learnt through experience that arguing with you guys is a waste of time and energy.
Wow that’s amazing. How did you learn how to do this?
It is convenient to classify it as a dwarf planet but that doesn’t mean that “dwarf planet” and “planet” are scientific categories in the purest sense of the term

British Columbia@lemmy.ca•Victoria man pushes for Canada to go fully metric
5·2 天前Aren’t we officially already fully metric?
Sorry, no. When I was testing the paint in my old apartment my wife just bought some random kit online and it seemed to work. We didn’t do a lot of research on it beforehand or anything
Also, a missed opportunity:
already plan on i
Could have been “I pan on it”
It looks very cool. A word of caution: depending on how old they are they might be contaminated with lead. I’d recommend giving them a test.

Decomposition would likely be slower in this environment too. It would be harder for worms and maggots and so on to get a foothold. You’d have to rely mostly on bacterial means of decomposition
