  • I feel like you are cutting society too much slack.

Yes, capitalists set the tone, but people in our immediate surroundings (neighbors, parents, schools) are the ones who enforce the rules.

20 years ago: You got an email? Well… you’ll see it when you open your personal/work computer.

Now: You got an email? Don’t you have a mobile phone? Every second you miss is an insult, especially if they saw you with your phone in your hand once while talking to them (you look at your phone AAAALLL THE TIME no???)

  • What I understood: Whenever we get a new tech, it makes our life easier (fact) but then the society expects more from us because “hey! now your life is easier, you have the time no?”.

edit: I had more to say I apparently.

    in the scope of washbasin:
Women used to do back breaking job for 2 hours while talking to their neighbors and friends by a river/well.

Now they don’t have to do back breaking job, instead they have to do comfortable but soul crushing jobs with co-workers they cannot naturally (professionalism) mingle with.

  • I mean it’s missing. “We are our brains + long range signalling molecule emitting organs” is better but it doesn’t roll off your tongue does it?

I am hangry when I’m hungry which means my stomach is a part of my personality (my responses to stimuli), not just my brain. Disregarding endocrine system is not scientifically honest.

Cancer (unwanted tissue) can change your personality (cancer is at the wrong place and actually changing brain signals or simply due to constant pain) and we remove them. Likewise, removing unwanted gonads can improve someone’s well-being (it was causing constant misery = personality change).

  • That’s literally true though? If it’s hard to see, take it to the extreme: If you were the only person in a place, you’d be the most important one by default?

They wouldn’t do a good job, but they’d have the job since, you know, there is less competition.

I did work and travel in USA, and they were paying us peanuts due to some law shenanigans (they had to pay overtime for Americans, not us.) Wouldn’t they have to hire a native instead of me if I wasn’t allowed to work there?

Then the joke is good (in a different way) no?

It makes you think that maybe we don’t need “passionate” sex scenes in movies if implied sex would do it (naked people fade to black) if that’s your stance.

It makes you think “wow some actors/actresses must be very good at their craft” if they don’t let you notice the disgust they are feeling even though if you think about it not everyone is attracted to everyone else, if that’s your stance.

    Good one, idk?

  • Pong source code is available in many languages. You could have also made it in a second if you copied someone else’s work.

Now seriously: I make games for myself for 8 years now. It’s really really easy if you don’t have to please someone else. They are fun too (for my use case: 1 or 2 thumb controlled bullet hell games for long train rides)

However actual video games are hard to make. Can you make music/sound effects? Otherwise you have to pay for it. Can you make sprites/3D models? Otherwise you have to pay for it. There is balance (data science or you gotta pay for it), there is accessibility (you don’t wanna trigger someone’s epilepsy / can they play your game if they are missing a thumb?) Do you want a story (pls don’t), can you write it(pls pay for it if I have to suffer through a cutscene)?

if you believe sum of all the costs would be smaller than the earnings, go for it. Otherwise it’s a very fun hobby like painting or playing the guitar.

I like this video if you have 52/(youtube speed factor you can handle) minutes:
