He absolutely deserves it, though actors are in a particular field where “no intention” can be easily changed by the right script, project, etc.

If a triple-A director said, “hey Michael I’m working in this project but I won’t make it unless you sign on for role X” he’d likely take it, since they would accommodate literally any demands or needs he has. Assuming no preventative health issues of course, although there have been plenty of actors that have done so.

And, in all likelihood, that could be an award winning role, if for no other reason than a “lifetime achievement award”.
