here’s a take. i think her story was this was basically tried a bunch of times from both sides of the aisle and finally made it, and makes some kind of overall economic sense, despite the rotten branding.
my first thought was that it could be something like a stochastic grift, funneling defaulted money from latent accounts into the banks.
bigger picture it seems like a way to try and distract from support of, or privatize/individualize social security
