  • They should cut to the chase and call Jesus a Marxist.

Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. Luke 12:33

Jesus looked at him and loved him. “One thing you lack,” he said. “Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Mark 10:21

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?  When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?  When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ Matthew 25:34-40

  • Thanks for reminding me why I left reddit.

There’s plenty of blame to attribute to both sides here (Pakistan and India). India for its settler colonial approach to Kashmir since BJP fascists took power and Pakistan for state sponsorship of terrorism.

India responded with diplomacy and sanctions when the same terrorist group (Lashkar-e-Taiba, previously funded by Osama Bin Laden) that launched the most recent attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir committed the atrocities of 26/11 in Mumbai (killing 100 and injuring over 300).

That was an exceptionally controlled response. Essentially any nation with the capability would respond to that with mililtary action. We all know how the US would respond if it happened on their soil.

I can understand the use of force by India here. Doesn’t mean I agree with the revocation of article 370 and I am firmly opposed to Hindu nationalism.

The only recent polling data we have shows that most Kashmiris want independence. May not be the most realistic outcome for a landlocked region surrounded by nuclear powers but I do believe all people deserve the right to self determination. Unfortunately, both India and Pakistan are standing in the way of that, as they see ceding the territory as a threat to their national security.

  • That seems like the only portion of the deal where the UK got the short end. Though, according to Lutnick, the Rolls Royce engines in Boeings (made in the UK) will now be exempt from tariffs so the UK gets some benefit from that too.

Opening the market to agriculture should have minimal impact unless US farmers are going to start meeting UK and European standards which is unlikely. I doubt the overhead would be worth it.

10% tariff on cars is not ideal but only 15% of UK car exports go the US. Sales will be impacted in the US no doubt, but this is far from catastrophic. May even be an oppurunity to expand into other markets.

Overall impression from this is that the US administration doesn’t know what it’s doing.

Having increased access to a market does not guarantee revenue. There needs to be actual demand for US goods (there isn’t in many of these cases) and US goods need to meet local regulatory guidelines (they don’t in the case of beef) for this to be a profitable agreement for the US.

I know Trump thinks America is a luxury store but oversized cars and chlorinated meats, no matter how luxurious, are not practical or desirable in every market.

This is starting to look like peak neoliberal (free and open markets solve all) and neocolonial (coercion via economic force) brain rot coming to fruition.

  • US media needs to start saying fascism when it sees fascism.

The American public has been so propogandized into thinking the US is inherently antifascist (as a holdover from WW2) that even their educated can’t recognize it happening in front of them.

Oh lookie here at all this ultranationalism, militarism, authoritarianism, language around purity / sanctity of our nation and scapegoating of minorities / immigrants. I wonder what we should call this absolutely unprecedented stew of bullshit that’s meant to put people through a meatgrinder that concentrates power and enriches the elite?
