  • Good ol’ Oral Allergy Syndrome (OAS). Discovered it with bananas as a child, apple as a teen, and the following as a young adult: peaches, pears, apricots, kiwifruit, cherries, cantaloupe, honeydew melon, to name a few. It was weird how each fruit would effectively just flip a switch randomly during my development.

That said, cooking the fruit denatures the proteins, so eg. apple pie is great!

  • The way I feel about Dawntrail is somewhat similar to how I feel about Stormblood - a great story from 100 feet up, good themes, etc. but very clumsy execution. Wuk Lamat is a fine character, but ends up oppressively tied to you the entire MSQ, minus one obvious bit. If they’d have split things, eg. Wuk for the first half, Koana for the second, I think it would have obliviated a significant fraction of the complaints.

Additionally, the voice work is all over the place. I have no idea how many rewrites were involved or what the voice direction situation was like, but this is far and away the expansion with the most inconsistent line read quality and quantity (in English).

That all said, the encounter team fuckin’ cooked, holy crap. The dungeons & trials are all great and the first extreme is damn inspired. I love all aspects of The Arcadeon and Jueno, and an very excited to set where things go with them.

  • Back in August '22, I weighed about 270 lbs @ 6’0 (122.5 kg, 183 cm). I realized this was dangerously unhealthy so I asked my doctor if there was any drug options for helping me change habits. As my insurance didn’t cover weight loss, the doc opted for Phentermine. It drastically cut my food cravings and with exercise I’ve been losing weight steadily since. Down to 215 lbs now and the physical benefits are great: no more constant GIRD, can bend over without discomfort, etc.

It is funny though, just finally barely breaking the obese barrier (30 bmi) and people say “and you still want to lose more weight??” My goal is 180.

Edit: As an aside, how fucked is it that insurance companies don’t cover weight loss; wouldn’t covering it reduce their costs over time?
