I guess the peace movements and protests made the aristocrats feel insecure.

I doubt that. I think I’m being pretty clear.

But ya. Identity is a product now. Designed in a laboratory like a phone. Sold like a tshirt.

You shop for an identity then you buy it. Now you know how to think and speak. What to love and what to hate. Who is your people and who is those other people. And the people who sold it to you know where your buttons are.

Agreed. In fact 99.999% of so-called reality is just a society-generated story to which the vast majority of people conform with great enthusiasm (and woe to anybody who deviates from that story).

Those who actually interact with reality and form unique opinions are weirdos and outcasts.

I think that, rather than offered sincerely, it’s more often used as an insult. Especially online.
