  • I think there’s probably no such thing as womens problems or mens problems. Only human problems that bounce around and affect everyone.

To your point, yes absolutely these issues affect us all, because we’re all connected as humans. But you might want to reconsider how you phrase that. This has big “I don’t see color” energy.

Both men and women absolutely have unique and specific issues that need recognition if we are to meaningfully address them.

  • There is both. When people are more afraid of embarrassment, they’ll ‘waste’ their lives, never doing what they really want to do.

When people are more afraid of wasting their lives [than of being embarrassed], they’ll actually live them, even though they may still feel embarrassment for being socially awkward, saying the ‘wrong’ thing, or whatever else their fears of embarrassment stem from.

  • Please reconsider the brother in christ phrase.

It’s problematic, because even if you don’t mean anything by it, it still normalizes and perpetuates christianity at a time when christian nationalism and Dominionism are on the rise and have taken over the US government. It also assumes the person you are talking to is also christian. Third, it reinforces patriarchy by assuming the person you are talking to is male.

I have no idea how it caught on and become popular, but I’m hoping that with a little self-reflection, we can all move away from it.

  • As others have said, at this point you don’t have a whole lot of choice; you pretty much have to use what the school provides you.

BUT, what you can do is try to rally other students to your cause. You pay the university, which means that students in numbers have influence over how the the university operates. I think your best chance to enact change is to create a petition to get the university to change to a more privacy-friendly alternative, and put together a proposal on how google and microsoft are harmful, and why your proposed alternative is better.

  • I have a Kinekt dual-spring suspension seatpost that I have been riding on for years. For the most part, I really like it and it works well to smooth out bumps in my ride. It has a decent amount of travel for shock absorption.

However, it requires having the correct springs installed for the rider’s weight. If the springs are too soft, you’ll bottom out or bounce up and down as you pedal. Springs that are too stiff will nullify any benefit of having a suspension.

It takes time to dial it in, but for anyone who suffers from back or pelvic pain, I recommend a good suspension seatpost.

  • This stuff is why I don’t comment much on Lemmy.

Same. I used to post more, under previous accounts, calling out sexism and misogyny on Lemmy when I saw it. But when my simple, respectful posts calling out toxic behavior got more downvotes than upvotes, I decided it wasn’t worth my time to try and change the collective thinking on Lemmy.
