  • This looks like exclusive phasing and it’s despicable when it’s at every damn intersection.

I like exclusive phasing when there’s a high volume of pedestrians crossing in all directions. However it’s horrible on stroads because it’s done under the pretense of pedestrian security while being mainly to maintain a heavy flow of cars in as much directions as possible. And it makes waiting longer.

It’s one of my pet peeve when I visit Quebec city. All of their fucking pedestrian crossings are exclusive phasing, and I loathe it. It’s nice and useful in the the old town, but it becomes so annoying as soon as you walk outside of the walls.

  • A few years ago I had a depression and two dreams were coming back repeatedly.

My apartment was a floating in the middle of the ocean and I had to defend it against “invaders”, like my landlords, my parents, some of my “friends”. They were all trying to “attack” me and invade my now lonely isolated floating apartment.

The other one is my fit coworker hunting and running after me to capture me and bring me back forcefully to my parents, from which I was running away, in my mid thirties.

  • Possible. However as a non native English speaker myself, I kind of take pride in making sure I’m understood, and grammatically cromulent.

And i’ve seen multiple people apologizing for their English, then having a better vocabulary and grammar than most native speakers.

Of course some people can barely make a sentence in a second or third language. It’s quite possible. I’m really bad at making coherent sentences in German, even after many years of studying it. But in my experience, non native speakers tend to be careful about this.

It forced me to learn. It took me weeks to get X configured and working correctly. I had an internet subscription and a modem but it also took weeks to get it to work on Linux. My distribution came on a CD from a magazine but some dependencies were not included, so I had to reboot under Windows to download a missing package, reboot on Linux and try again, then need to get the next dependency. We came a long long way from having to specify the vertical refresh rate of the monitor in xf86config.

Starting with a French version of Slackware was brutal but I had nothing else.

At some point, pretty much everything becomes political. I like to cycle, walk and enjoy nature. Me not wanting to get killed by a car driver is political, and me thinking we shouldn’t dump toxic crap in the environment is political. The new stop sign at the corner of the street is political. Housing is political. The high price of goods is political.

It’s understandable to want to escape, avoid all this crap and take a break for a while. But memes are also a way to vent and express the frustration about the current political climate.

Unfortunately those two are narcissist shit stains that enjoy having people talking about them every day so they are nearly impossible to avoid for a while.

I like to go touch some grass. Close social media and go take a walk or cycle. Think about how all the fucking money is… eeerh… touch some grass… go camping and hiking, admire the views that are about to get destroyed by capit… eeehm, that makes you feel small. Hear the beautiful sounds of nature accompanied by the dirt bikes illegally riding in the forest. All free of politics! Even when they’ll invade and annex my country, I’ll just be like “can’t we all just stop talking about politics and share memes, please!?”

  • This is wrong and insulting. Si t’es un québecois (ou francophone), sors-toi ce mythe prescriptiviste de la tête.

Are you going to say that the Swiss dont speak “real” German? Brazilian Portuguese is a bastardized Portuguese? All the different variations of Spanish are not all Spanish?

AFAIK there is no linguistic process called bastardization. French in Québec, or in Canada, is French.

  • A word has multiple definitions.

In English (or French), milk can also describe a while liquid. There are six definitions for milk on Wiktionnary, and here is the second one:

(uncountable, by extension) A white (or whitish) liquid obtained from a vegetable source such as almonds, coconuts, oats, rice, or soy beans

There is also something called cement milk

A watery film of a dull white or gray color often appears on the surface. This white matter is the so-called cement milk.

I was walking under a decrepit elevated expressway and there were signs saying to be careful about cement milk dripping from the ceiling. I don’t think there’s any mammal involved in producing that type of milk.
