I moved from sysadmin to technical pre-sales a few years ago and I’m happy with the move. Though honestly I enjoyed being a sysadmin as well - from my experiences it’s more the work environment and the collegues than the actual work you do that makes or breaks a job.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•My generation was probably the last one to get told "You won't have a calculator in your pocket all the time" by our math teachers.
10·9 hours agoExacty. A calculator is useless if you don’t know how to structure the problem and what and how to calculate it.

2·10 hours agoA strategic gamble on their part to not take it earlier (say at one of the last two races). But his season is pretty much done at this point.

12·1 day agoMost of it. Though at the same time, a ton of security vulnerabilities are also coming out thanks to AI so companies are playing catch-up.
Pretty solid for various handicaps and such.

1·3 days agoI think creating art is a goal onto itself and it’s something people will do regardless of AI. Like, if I like to write, the act of writing is the important part, more than the end result. Similar for music, movies, etc. For all the ai generated slop that’s out there, there will always be that person who enjoys picking up a paintbrush and going to town.

1·3 days agoYeah, there are a couple of programs that turn off things like ad tracking and telemetry in Windows. I also use Chocolatey to install software, most of it open-source (Firefox, VLC, etc).

2·3 days agoI’ve been playing then on and off for 10 years or so, mostly with a wheel. They’re relaxing and I love listening to podcasts or audiobooks while driving around. I find the graphics pretty solid as well and prefer American Truck Simulator for the scenery (I’m from Europe but find the deserts in the US really fascinating).

2·3 days agoYup, and there’s more and more various ads in these programs as well. The worst is on the mobile version of Outlook, in the calendar, it says ‘Give me something to do’ or something along these lines. I’m like bitch please, I have enough shit to do without Copilot coming up with stuff based on my calendar.
Same here, though I’d be suprised if there wasn’t a plugin for Obsidian which would provide Gantt charts, Kanban, etc.
I use Obsidian for documentation and such Vikunja for task management (Kanban).

1·3 days agoYeah, I’ve ran the gamut from Linksys (started with the WRT-54gl, legendary), to TP-Link and Asus, moving to Syonology and finally landing on Ubiquity. I agree - by far the most capable and reliable of all these. Especially since I’ve gotten into setting up a homelab with VLANs and such. The synology has support for this but it’s not the greatest.

8·3 days agoIMO it’s pretty done as far as the WDC goes. 84 point lead for Kimi and 5-7 races to go, I don’t see even a DNF or two stopping him now.
Great race from Max, and really good strategy from Lewis (pushing back on the call to box). Also nice seeing Alonso with P8.

World News@lemmy.world•‘This can’t go on’: tens of thousands protest against housing crisis in SpainEnglish
39·4 days agoFrom the article: The long-simmering anger at soaring housing costs boiled over late last month, when 87-year-old Maricarmen Abascal, who uses a wheelchair, was evicted from the home she had lived in for 70 years. The octogenarian said she was unable to afford the 230% rent hike demanded by the investment fund that bought her apartment.

At this point I find the errors are pretty rare and much prefer self-checkout, mainly because it’s faster, and as you put it, I often don’t care for peopling.
