  • Seiko was never especially known for the precision of their mechanical movements. They were known for making decent watches for very little money. But they’ve now cast off the low end of their offerings entirely in the past few years.
Instead, they now sell their basic movements to other manufacturers.
So I’d argue if you want the best bang for your buck, buy a microbrand watch.
They often offer unique designs, great finish and build quality, with a reliable basic movement for less than a current entry level Seiko.
And if you want to go really cheap, the bigger Aliexpress watch brands have honestly become really good as well. I just dislike them because most of them don’t have their own designs, but just copy that of a popular Swiss watch.

  • Not in Germany.
Lots of bakers, independent fast food vendors, barber shops and small grocery stores still don’t take cards (hmm, I wonder why…)
Forget about paying electronically at street festivals, smaller concert venues, or markets.
The parking meters in my city still only take coins. So do many public toilets.
You need coins to unlock the shopping carts in supermarkets.
If you order something from overseas with a customs fee, you’re expected to pay it to the mailman - Who can only accept cash and carries no change. Oh, and there’s no way to know in advance how much it’ll cost.

  • I royally fucked up when I first started using a password manager:
I created a password entry, copied the password from it, clicked on “change password” in the account I wanted to update, and pasted in.
Repeat for all my accounts, without testing in between.
I forgot that Linux has two separate clipboards for CTRL+C/V and middle click paste.
I used the wrong one for pasting and changed all my passwords to whatever was in the other clipboard at that moment.
Then I shut the computer down.
And then I realized what I’d just done.
