  • This has actually been a really good discussion on both sides as I think many including myself didn’t know about some of the inner workings of them. I’m glad the discussion happened. The trap article IS worth a read, it’s overly long but is really well written. After reading enough about both sides though I don’t think I’m too worried and will continue using them.

  • magguzu@lemmy.pttoLinux@lemmy.ml•Passkeys are **not** a trap. Use them!

Honestly the original post arguing against them makes very valid points that I wasn’t expecting to read to the end, even if they probably lost 90%+ of readers with the length that could have been cut down.

Speaking as a GrapheneOS and Linux user, the possibility of remote attestation to stop me from doing so is a legitimately shitty thought.

Been quite a fan of the convenience though as I just hate having to keep my phone on me all the time. So I’m torn, but will continue using them at least until a whiff of big tech buffoonery comes around.

Edit: Ricky’s arguments seem sound but I think you can also tack on “for now” to all of them. They also work for Apple so worth mentioning that potential conflict of interest/bias. I’d be curious of GrapheneOS’s take.

  • I work in a coworking space. They just announced they’re moving the space to a block away. I was talking to the other folks about it yesterday, and one of them was complaining that the new space has no parking. She currently pays to park in the garage adjacent to the current space. I suggested just keeping that garage and she said “yeah, I guess I’m going to have to”

This in a very walkable downtown btw
