I want to believe that things can be changed electorally, but I know that it wouldn’t come from anyone near power currently. Mamdani is the greatest hope right now, but he’s ultimately going to be in an ivory tower. He’s also been very clear that he’s being elected to run the ivory tower of America, so I’m not downplaying neither the significance or his awareness of the role.

There’s no argument that Republicans have found a number of large exploits in the system that they are currently manipulating to “win” the US federal government. Whether or not such a system is theoretically capable of being repaired is up for debate, but it sure as hell isn’t going to happen at the hands of fucking Democrats.

This is the crucial undermining aspect of the ICC; that the high-minded ideals of justice are only realistically upheld for economically depressed, non-Western states. Why should they stick around, when their votes to hold criminals accountable in America, Israel, China, etc are useless? The racism and classism inherent in these attempted international institutions, starting with the UN, will lead to their unraveling if not addressed.

You’re correct, the ICC’s jurisdiction has never been recognized by the US, or a bunch of other countries for that matter. They could still prosecute individuals and convict them, but the US wouldn’t hand them over, and it’s not likely that anyone would attempt to come get them.

There is a pretty large number of ICC fugatives from all over the world, notably Russian and Israeli officials. Afaik, France and the UK are the only two UN members with veto power that recognize the ICC’s official jurisdiction.

Bootloader unlocking is getting pretty thin these days, so I wouldn’t be surprised when that ends too.

Afaik, it’s traditional to Central American (and maybe South American?) cuisine, but I don’t know any science-y aspects to it’s use. You make salsas and guac directly in it, and I can say they do hit different, but I can’t say exactly why.

This is not the case for modern detergents, but is held over from when soaps were all made from lye. The polymerized layers of oil that you have will stay mostly in tact with some dish detergent and a light scrub sponge. After washing and drying mine off with a towel, I apply some oil and heat it on the stove for a few minutes to maintain the seasoning.

But absolutely mortar and pestle should never ever get soap, particularly something like a molcajete made from volcanic rock. I just wipe mine really thoroughly with a clean, damp cloth.
