Elon anywhere, govt or Tesla or SpaceX or Boring, will always and forever say “maybe even 2029” when he should say “the mid 2030’s”. But he won’t, because he doesn’t understand the underlying effort required to get there, is inherently unfamiliar with the business, and only knows how to hype.

The valuations of his companies, and the adoring crowds are just high functioning nerds thinking he will be successful because they were. When they bought Tesla stock, they bought a promise of a better future of themselves. Elizabeth Holmes went to jail for what Elon is doing, but if you’re white, male, rich and have a cute autistic way of talking, they let you get away with it.

It’s commendable for a guy his age and from his upbringing to steer clear of the MAGA magnet. All those years sitting next to Mark Shields (RIP) must have done something for him. He’s one of the few people who always had his head screwed on straight, even when he was arguing viewpoints opposite to mine.

The downvotes on comments like these is really concerning. It’s too early for downvote bots on Lemmy, so these are genuine USA landers who don’t understand that their country is past the tipping point. Democracy will not peacefully return all by itself.

I know it’s a hard truth to hear, but downvoting the comments that are most level headed won’t save your fantasy.

As an outside USA person: these protests are appalling in numbers, frequency and visibility here on Lemmy.

This entire crowd exists solely on Reddit. Fight the oligarchy means also to fuck spez. How is the education going so slowly on this? Not to mention a couple dozen left wing commentators using the swastica platform on the daily still. As if it’s the only way to gather information.

Only fighting when you’re certain of victory is actually the smart way of doing combat. Nothing to do with fascists or cowards.

I think what you mean is that they will only pick on the weak and indefensible. That’s what’s going on. This isn’t even a fight, they are snapping them off the street without warning. And it isn’t a victory either, as they are fast tracking mass outrage.

We’re being played, as is always the case with Trump. He’s dictating the things we get outraged by, day by day. He wants the outrage, because he needs the pretext for Martial Law. That’s the fight he wants, and the victory they seek: total consolidation of power, so he can crown himself king.

Hitler too, only had a vocal minority before he rose to power.
