That is not always true.
I’d appreciate it if everyone could just stop burning fossil fuels, please. Thank you for your cooperation.
That is not always true.
This can be solved by not connecting your solar panels to the Internet, or putting them behind a secure VPN if you really need remote access for some reason.
Thermodynamics does not prohibit a reaction in which carbon is liberated from complex hydrocarbons and incorporated into some other compound which can be conveniently stored as an inert powder, with a net gain of energy.
Carbon capture: Not completely ruled out by the laws of physics, in theory.
Enhance Energy and Wolf Midstream’s 240-km Alberta Carbon Trunk Line, which has received $843 in government and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board subsidies, transports captured carbon from a refinery and fertilizer plant to drill for more oil.
It’s 100% a scam just like the others, but if it only cost the government $843 I guess we got off lightly on that one.
On an objective standard, a bylaw like that might cause a reasonable person to be intimidated. It should not be allowed within a thousand miles of the city of Ottawa.
If we’re at the point where it takes “economy of scale” to remain in the game then the average miner must have invested in a whole lot of hardware and such. What happens when the cost of financing the premises and equipment outweighs the meagre returns over electricity cost from keeping things running? There could be periods where nobody’s making money. Not that I have any idea if we’re in one.
It might’ve given us a Liberal majority! Or it might not. That would depend on whether people used the power to better express their preferences to indicate that they preferred the Liberals.
Bitcoin mining hasn’t had anything to do with GPUs since 2014. Ether, since 2022. It’s the AI people you’re looking for.
Also because of, you know, tobacco.
If only somebody would design an open and federated protocol to replace giant social media platforms in a way that destroys the ability of billionaire monopolists or anyone else to use the network effect to lock people into their psychomanipulation machines.
Nah, we’ll just make them tweak the dials towards less disinformation and more safe-for-advertisers messaging.
The Great Firewall of China serves the discussion about American social media media platforms only by providing an example of how things could be even worse.
When the power was out for over a week a couple years ago, after getting over the initial difficulties the next thing I missed was laundry.
I like to have something with some thermal mass to it in the freezer at all times. (Currently it’s a lot of frozen spinach.)
It takes a couple days to thaw out when the power goes down, usually long enough to find a source of ice blocks.
Around here the traffic lights stop working right away if the power is out. If you’re in the city traffic will suck for a while, but then it will drop to very little and the buses will be fine.
Unfortunately, the call to “do something” about social media will only result in renewed efforts to do the wrong thing, as the previous government attempted. Facebook will be made to behave slightly better at the cost of creating a new regulatory system that reinforces its power and makes Canada legally dangerous for fedi instances or other alternatives.
Go on Mr. Carney, please prove me wrong.
Speaking of the wasting of time, was there any particular reason why you chose this thread to do your trolling in? The linked article is mostly just pointing out the obvious.
Sorry devs, not even trying to stop me from playing Infiniti Nikki can make me want to play Infiniti Nikki.
Tony Blair has spoken. Doom it is, then.
Stop, you’ve gone too far. Also you’ve gone the wrong way. And your driving is terrible. And you’re drunk on power. Why did I even get in this clown car.
(Or perhaps if things need to connect to some kind of grid management services, a firewall with appropriate rules — i.e. ones that do not allow connections to or from random addresses in China. Or some combination of both. Depends on the requirements but it’s not that complicated. Consult your local IT security expert.)
