Anyway. I knew a guy who did the walk. It was his fun fact at parties. He wasn’t white and said he learned to call ahead to let authorities know he was coming through on foot.

I use the walking and transit functionality of Google maps extensively. Being able to account for “the G is not running but there’s a free shuttle bus” is really nice.

It does? I mean, I guess it depends on your OS and if there’s an handler for .md files. My machine opens them fine. I don’t know what the default is on windows. Handling a file extension with a smart default is really on the OS provider, though.

I was considering a short trip to visit family outside the city, here in the NYC region. By train it’s like $70 for two of us. By car it’s $10 in tolls (per Google maps), plus fuel/wear and externalized costs.

That’s ass fucking backwards. I’d much rather take the train. I don’t want to spend 5-7x to take the train.

I work at a shitty megacorp where they hire people as “contractors” and then have them act like full time employees, but without any paid time off or health insurance.

I have made this joke a few times when people were like “work late to finish the thing!”

It’s not trivial to leave. Finding work is hard. Housing is hard, especially if you’re not physically there to look at places. Getting permanent status is difficult. For many people in the US, they only speak English. Maybe Spanish. So that’s limiting.

Feels pretty good living in one of the few parts of the US where you don’t need a car. Just walk or take transit.

Moving to such a place isn’t practical for everyone, sadly.
