One time in college Friend A was going to drive us someplace. She started the car and said, “You ready, baby?”
Friend B in the front seat went, “…yeah?”
Friend A snapped, “I was talking to the car”
Dunno why I still think about that sometimes. Lost touch with those friends years ago.
Spy cameras are bad. However, police arbitrarily enforcing the law is also really bad. So is no enforcement at all. So I’m not sure what’s the least bad.
Maybe as the other person said a camera system that only records the minimum information, and can’t be used for other purposes.
There’s a lot of people who are like “I don’t want to pay for someone else!”
Those people should be scooped up and sent right to therapy. And maybe some basic social studies classes. And maybe a religious teacher if their faith instructs them to be kind and charitable to others.
I’ve made this argument before, with limited success.
Voting is fairly cheap. Just abandoning that entire front in the conflict is stupid.
I mean, I guess that’s technically true for some people. Unfortunately, most people aren’t in a position to fire anyone or force them to learn anything. And the people who do have that power typically don’t care or understand the problem. Whatever capitalist husk is calling the shots isn’t going to want to spend money training their HR goons to learn software development.
What is the solution?
I don’t think they can. HR seems to be full of people who are trying to hire for roles they don’t understand. Everyone who works in web development has probably encountered stuff like “Do you know java or javascript? Either is fine” from HR screening calls.
Yeah, exactly. People think capitalism means competition, but that’s not a great definition of it. It means capital gets to call the shots and keep the profits, even when they’re not doing any meaningful work.
You could have any number of companies competing that are worker owned.
Seems reasonable. There’s always more that could be done, and hopefully this isn’t where the mayor stops.
I like that guild wars 2 asura (short playable species) are like little weird aliens and not sexualized.
I’d rather ban future Gavin Newsom.
Pretty much all my clothes are from thrift stores or small band tshirts. The rare times I have to buy something new I’m shocked by the price.
And yet many people fight to keep the car first infrastructure that rots our spaces and resists community forming.
The responsible, corporate, way of being. Definitely should have done that. I just want people to feel uncomfortable when they have fucked up. Everyone’s just so polite. No one faces social consequences.
This is the same place where they don’t pay for holidays. My boss told me to stop saying things like “I don’t get paid, so it won’t be that good” when they say “have a good holiday”. If grand-boss, ghoul, and preeminent “We don’t pay for holidays” enforcer Anne was locked in a burning building, maybe I’d just say “happy holidays!” and walk away.
A guy I don’t really like at work does all sorts of AI induced PRs. I think he thinks it makes him look good. It probably does, to management.
I got reprimanded for asking if a guy’s extremely weird code was something he wrote himself. He went crying to my boss about how I’m mean on PRs. Fuck you, William. I hope your house catches fire and you pass out while asking Claude for help.
Don’t subscribe. Use your library. Or find something else to do
We’re more a country of guidelines than laws, really.
There was “operation lucky bag” where the NYPD would purposefully leave a backpack, and arrest people who picked it up
There’s other coverage out there too.
The police are not a force for good.
It does seem like a lot of people are lacking in imagination
Many people transition later in life. Someone in my friend group only transitioned in her mid 40s.
You don’t have to go all the way in one shot, too. A different friend just dabbled by painting nails and changing hair cuts for a while.
Talk to a therapist, probably.
