Die CSU bekommt das Innenressort sowie das Ministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt und das Ministerium für Ernährung, Landwirtschaft und Heimat.
Die SPD bekommt trotz eines Wahlergebnisses von 16,4 Prozent neben dem Verteidigungsressort das strategisch wichtige Finanzministerium. Zudem Justiz und Verbraucherschutz, Arbeit und Soziales, das Ministerium für Umwelt, Klimaschutz, Naturschutz und nukleare Sicherheit sowie das Ministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung. Außerdem behalten die Sozialdemokraten das Ministerium für Wohnen, Stadtentwicklung und Bauwesen.
