Linux@programming.dev•No, Linux didn't actually hit 10% market share. Blame bots
51·2 days agoYou cannot really blame bots. Blame is for intelligent beings responsible for their actions.

4·2 days agoNow imagine we could have Linux mainline on Android phones :)
hmm actually me uncle asked me if I want his 10" netbook from like 2012. But I said I’m gonna buy a better netbook. Now thinking… Look at all these pre-2017 macbooks! I mean we could do a cluster!
I’m from Iran and I’m up for this!
I am so pleased with so many crazy people in this thread. I’m not alone!!!
I have Synapse(Matrix) on Nano Pi NEO in me CV :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
oh and by the way, back then Synapse was much worse. I created few GBs of swap on microSD to get it installed :>
Indeed NanoPi NEO is a lovely cute board. Who needs 64 bit? :>

Linux@programming.dev•Datahoarders, how many Linux ISOs do you actually have?
3·5 days agoI just checked. In me archive directory in
OperatingSystemsI’ve got a total of 40 files. However, now I remember I should delete so many of them as they are outdated or not needed anymore. Also not all of them are Linux ISOs. ~10 of them are BSDs.26 after deletion.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•EU commission mastodon account says right to repair is going to be real in EU with parts available up to 10 years
1·6 days agoGood point! But unlike cars, maybe there could be multiple vendors for the same part? Then it should drag the price down. That’s already the case about many Apple accessories.

0·6 days agoTo say the least, I’ll have to buy a 900 USD device and use it for 10 years instead of buying 3x300 USD devices each 3 year. This is the current situation with most phones and tablets which come from China.

2·7 days agoAs I researched online, I’m not sure if I can boot from microSD. But most likely I will be able to put from USB. It could be
/booton USB and the rest on uSD. But I will have to buy an expensive uSD to get at least like 150MB/sIf I go this way, the advantage is that I can get an old macbook air with broken SSD working. And since the SSD is not normally replaceable, this means excellent bargaining chance for me :)))

1·8 days agoLenovo x200 series could be a good option. But it is not as small and light as I want. But maybe in the end I go for x200 or x100 series. Then replace the battery and the charging circuit etc

2·8 days agoThank you so much for this! Why 2015? Why not 2013? Also, isn’t it possible to boot them from microSD? I’m looking for a sub 12" device.

1·9 days agoThese cheap Windows tablets with Atom come de facto with a physical keyboard. Or… are these also something gone along netbooks?

I don’t think RAM shortage will last for too long. Also I’m fine with 8GB of RAM if me phone runs mainlinux Linux. Actually 8GB is extra.
