  • Exercising your mind: as others have said, reading even fiction books for long periods of time, helps with attention span. Also, when you have an impulse to use ChatGPT to ask a question or how to do something or what to do, try think of your own answers first, and then ask. Or, what I like to do, is ask questions on how to pick the right answer, so it’s more like research. For example, I needed to replace my GFCI outlet that tripped. Asking why, how it works, what causes issues, allows me to have a more intimate experience of life than just replacing the outlet and hoping for the best next time.

I think it’s really good for learning, as a co-tutor, but if you are offloading all of your thinking and not remembering anything you’ve discussed, it’s time to take some breaks (like I do no digital Sundays) so that way you are more focused and aware when you do use ChatGPT again.

    Hope that helps

I bought land with this mentality. Permanently reducing my costs and investing in off-grid infrastructure to make retirement cheaper.

I think it’s also the culture of seeing real estate as an investment. People buy houses planning on selling after they’ve lived there. I personally don’t think I can tolerate the risk of using equity as leverage for paid off land, because then there’s a risk the bank will take it. I’d rather leverage things I can live without if the bank takes it for whatever reason.

  • I think the comparison is that both fields are often misunderstood through oversimplified descriptions. “Astrology is just Sun signs” and “LLMs are just stochastic parrots” are both reductionist summaries that leave out a lot of the interesting discussion. Whether either ultimately succeeds at what it claims is a separate question.

As for astrology itself, I became interested through Carl Jung, who viewed astrology as a symbolic system that reflected recurring psychological patterns and wrote about it in relation to archetypes and synchronicity ( Man and his symbols .) Astrology provides a symbolic language for thinking about cycles, temperament, motivation, and meaning.
