We can’t be raging communists all the time, we have to pick our battles, we don’t just charge machine guns while waving our hands and screaming, etc. This is what I tell myself while I am surrounded by people who are either nazis or people who don’t care about nazis.
I have no patience for people who don’t mask and I feel extremely uncomfortable around them and don’t trust them at all.
This is better than nothing, but you can drive for years without a seatbelt and not have any problems. Who thinks it’s safe to drive this way? (I know lunatics who do, but still…)
I live in such a white state, that even most of the 3D jobs are done by white people. Get any group of these white men together, and it’s a matter of minutes, maybe an hour or two at most, before someone says something racist or sexist or transphobic or whatever, with no pushback, although I certainly pay attention to the guys who at least don’t play along with this. A lot of these guys are either living in vans or are on the edge of homelessness, but whiteness is the glue that holds it all together.

My spouse has a nurse coworker who has six-figure student debt. She’s working thirteen-hour night shifts many days of the week to pay it off, and still studying to become an NP (which is like a super nurse and very well-paid). My spouse describes herself as “a socialist but not a communist” but she is also thankfully missing lots of liberal brainworms—a few weeks ago she mentioned that this coworker had said something about “Uyghurs,” which my spouse had never heard of. But oh man, of course I know all about it. And I was just like…you’re drowning in debt, you’re crying in front of your coworkers every day, you’re either working or studying almost every waking moment for month after month, and this is what you’re worried about? This is the kind of media you’re consuming? You hate Chinese people, you hate Muslims, but you’re very concerned about Chinese Muslims—right? And of course, not a word about Palestine from this coworker. Not a single complaint about the Democrats never lifting a finger to provide universal education or even pay people to go to school.
Whiteness just boggles the mind I guess. So many destitute Americans (many who are not white on the outside at least) will jump whenever the ruling class tells them to.
In person they will sometimes say something about how capitalism isn’t working the way it’s supposed to; i.e., it should be working for me because I am the main character of the universe, but because it isn’t, it needs reforms. So long as I can sit atop a pile of treats, nothing else matters.
Hopefully he will be in jail next week.

Finding a book by snyder on my parents’ coffee table was seriously the last straw. I had a huge fight with them about it and then stopped talking with them. Two years ago.
It was like a comic book version of on tyranny or something. My parents haven’t finished reading any books in years, probably including this one. It still infuriated me.
The Wire still humanizes cops and barely mentions the racism inherent to policing though. There’s like one racist cop who gets reassigned immediately. The entire show spends maybe five minutes on him. I think the reality of cops is that they are rich, racist, cowardly buffoons who nonetheless follow almost any order. We never see them depicted in this way in any corporate media.
