Posting an image of a person who is known to everyone as the (suspected) murderer of a capitalist, whom he explicitly murdered for his capitalistic practices, and referring to a distinct but similar set of calitalistic practices is not “a non-violent Luigi post”. It’s not directly calling for violence, sure. But the connection is pretty clear. If the Right did something like that, we’d probably call it a ((likely intentionally) poorly disguised) dog whistle.

I’m not saying the post is evil and ban-worthy. Which side an action is done for matters. You might say, the ends justify the means. But get your terminology right, and shed the centrists’ illusions. And non-violence is an illusion. This is the propaganda theatre of a class war. And Reddit is fighting for the enemy.

Semi-serious suggestion: Guix or NixOS. They’re not break-safe per se, but if they do break something, you can use the OS’ previous generations to go back to an operational state. Just… don’t let them use the commands that delete older generations.

But our strength is in our numbers. Get organized. Maybe in a political party, maybe “just” in some sort of collective that helps in an area you care about. Help others in whatever capacity fits your abilities and your situation. And don’t expect it to be a quick victory. That will only result in disappointment. As a wise man (?) once so succinctly put it: “Apes together strong.”

Das hängt sehr stark davon ab, wie lax man “links” definiert. Wenn man als Kriterium für linke Politik vage Zustimmung zu Menschenrechten, Umweltschutz und Demokratie (solange man nichts weiter tun muss, als alle paar Jahre zu wählen, natürlich) heranzieht, dann vielleicht. Aber mit wirklicher linker Politik, also dem hinterfragen systemischer Ungerechtigkeit und der wirtschaftlichen Besitzverhältnisse, hat das nichts zu tun.

Dieses Assoziieren von Bildungsgrad (bzw. Intelligenz, wenn man ehrlich wäre) mit rechter Politik ist genau einer der Gründe, die die “weniger Gebildeten” tiefer in die Arme der rechten Populisten treiben. Mit höherem Bildunggsstand hat man idR auch mehr finanzielle Freiheit und kann sich den liberalen Idealismus leisten.

Manchmal denke ich mir, wir linke sind zu harsch darin, die “liberalen Medien” so zu verschreien. Und dann kommt sowas.

It doesn’t matter when exactly it “started”. The question should be how we get out of it. Or, more fundamentally, what actually is the problem, fundamentally? Is it a bunch of racists and bigots abusing a corrupt system to inch the US (well, we do have it in Europe too, just not so extreme yet) ever closer to fascism, or is it the underlying system of escalating exploitation and conflict that enables them?
