  • The number of replies in that last thread that were outright dismissive or hostile to the very idea of your collection was frankly absurd. I’m glad you were able to explain why you find value in managing your collection the way you do.

People seem to be so afraid of wasting time, or making a bad purchase regardless of how minimal the functional loss might be. But as you say, there are worthwhile experiences of fun and/or artistic merit waiting to be found for thise willing to take a risk.

  • Everyone has already said it, but don’t even sweat it. I had a little time when I tried to check in on Lemmy and couldn’t, so I simply set it aside to try again later. Things hum along smoothly here so much more often than not, and I wouldn’t be surprised if a sizable portion of us have been in that same position ourselves of needing to straighten out a failed upgrade for some project or other. I know I certainly have

  • I can say that I enjoy the Final Fantasy series just for the fact that I respect they are always trying something different with each one. This has the end result of me not getting on with several of them, but critically, someone else does.

I just find it kind of beautiful that a series is willing to experiment with itself to such a degree, and that at this point there really is at least one game in it for just about everyone.

All it really means is that I have to accept that not every game has been made with me as the target.

  • Even having done professional mail hosting for years at one point in my sysadmin career, I still think paid email hosting is worth it even for those with the skills to stand it up themselves, at least for any inbox that might see actual important communication.

The reliable infrastructure, and the reputation management demands on a self-hosters time are a tough sell, when the cost to make it someone else’s problem is comparatively low. :D

  • Exactly this. I understand the cynicism, but it ultimately doesn’t matter what the motivation of a company walking back a poor decision is. We take the chance for mutual collaboration and hopefully everyone benefits.

On an individual level, that’s when people can evaluate if they still want to boycott and do whatever their own moral compass demands. But refusing to work together at this point just means we definitely don’t get the chance in the future to steer things in a better direction.
