lmao no he’s Simon Whistler he does a shit ton of presenting for videos mostly about history and politics, and it’s always dogshit. i don’t even know the guy’s actual views and that’s probably by design because he’s kind of a mr beast figure in the sense that he’s just a vessel for the algorithm. i don’t know if he only gets paid to host or he does retain some control on the scripts but almost all of it is dogshit.

shitty online shop based in china that’s popular in america because instead of shipping in bulk to warehouses in the US to distribute their stuff, they would send each individual item directly thus avoiding tariffs due to the “de minimis” loophole. one trump is eliminating de minimis for china meaning tariffs apply and two trump is putting crazy tariffs on china, the result being temu orders getting cancelled or incredibly expensive.

the person in the screenshot is oblivious to this fact so they ordered a lot of shit from temu and now im assuming their orders are getting cancelled.

  • there used to be other terms relating to specific things. reverse racism and white genocide, cultural marxism, LGBTQ propaganda, gender ideology, removed. but then the right decided to adopt intersectionality and decided to be bigoted against all minorities at the same time. this has the added benefit of not “excluding” someone if they belong to only one of the categories they hate while spreading hate against everyone they deem undesirable.

their first attempt was SJW which worked great in 2016-2017 era but 1. it’s an unwieldy three letter acronym 2. it sounds like jew. also the breadtube popularity in the subsequent years helped killing off the phrase. after breadtube creators either fell off or decided to only make artsy fartsy videos once a year they clapped back with woke and DEI.

one other thing woke and DEI have going for them is that they tie to this false notion of meritocracy which is unfortunately broadly popular. on the other hand SJW is relating to a specific stereotype of “blue haired feminist raging in tumblr” which most people really don’t care about.

  • you can do as my parents said “well you can become an engineer and continue humanities on the side”

joking aside i know it’s a recipe for burnout but stick to your software engineering career. junior positions absolutely suck and maybe if you ride it out you’ll start to like it better, or develop strategies to at least deal with it in a healthy way.

unfortunately there is no comparable pay in humanities and although job security is meaningless these days, your position will be extra precarious in humanities as half of your time will be spent justifying your existence to some shithead and you have to absolutely suck off people to keep your job whereas in SWE it’s at least desirable for the company to keep you around if they are not doing layoffs.

and what if you risk it and as it turns out you don’t like a job in humanities after all? or that the field is interesting but all the things surrounding it is a total shit show? this happens a lot and academia is full of passionate people chewed out and checked out by the suffocating admin surrounding it.

all im saying that it’s a huge gamble and personally i wouldn’t (and didn’t) take the risk. sometimes life is not about what’s rational but about what you are feeling so ultimately it’s your call.
