I just started a few months ago because I’m dating someone who is a big trekhead, I’d never seen it before. Like others are saying, she recommended we just start watching TNG from the beginning, and now we’re more than half way through it and I’m a fan.

I started reading science fiction and fantasy books exclusively before bed and it helped me. There’s something very nice about books that are not located in our reality; there is a different world with different rules and you can kind of get lost in there and let your own real world thoughts be put to the side. I usually fall asleep pretty quickly now. The only downside is that sometimes I wake up the next day with my bedlight on and my face in a book.

Is this a reference to something specific or just fucked up vibes?

I always got a creep vibe with Gaiman that I don’t with Pratchett, so hopefully that isn’t coloring my thinking about this, but…it seems like what I’ve read about their collaboration was mostly email and sending each other floppy disks in the 90s, and at that point NG hadn’t won all these awards and TP was well established, I wouldn’t be surprised if NG presented a version of himself to TP that he thought would be most endearing. By the time NG’s assaults seemed to ramp up in the late aughts and tens, TP already was dealing with Alzheimers. It seems possible that Sir Terry didn’t know what a shitbird Gaiman was capable of being.

Yeah as a former teacher I can imagine ai at actually being useful for putting together some slop for admins to use since they made us produce class scripts every day to submit to school admin that never actually read it, adding like an additional 8 hours of work every week on top of the 80 hours I was already working. Maybe use AI for that and then teach what you wanted to teach.

I would say record a lot with the intention of getting to know your equipment well, it depends a lot what you’re using to record and what kind of textures you’re trying to get. Listen back to it in different settings, in the car on different headphones, if you can get monitors that is always a step up. Mic placement is a whole thing that I don’t deal with much since I make electronic/sample based music but that might be worth watching some videos on if you’re trying to record percussion or acoustic instruments.
