Setting aside the environments arguments, I’ll hold out hope that he’s wrong and none of the ML companies will ever be able to fund something like that.
Also, what a weird launch company to buy if that’s your goal. I thought Relativity was going to be the odd one out without enough differentiation and wasn’t long for this world. The data center rationale makes me question that decision even more. I’m not praying for their downfall or anything, I just don’t get it.

I go back and forth on Gateway. A microgravity research station beyond LEO would be pretty helpful. Beyond that, though, it won’t literally be part of a Mars transit architecture like some long forgotten proposals, and stopping there on the way to the surface is unnecessary added delta-v. SLS+Orion also can’t fly often enough for Gateway to be its own destination or continuously crewed.
In my perfect world, there’d be continuously crewed lunar surface and orbital stations with commercial vehicles flying public and private missions to both. One day…
For launch, SpaceX, ULA, and Blue Origin seem like the next in line. For crew, SpaceX is currently really the only option.
Of course this still has to clear Congress, which has a lot of pork based reasons to think differently, but the cracks are showing in Artemis.
The program already relies on Starship or New Glenn being able to deliver crewed landers, so those obsolete SLS. Losing Gateway, the Lunar toll booth, bums me out as a space station fan, but I get it. I’m not clear on how they want to replace Orion yet.

Somehow one of our best hopes for SpaceX’s semi monopolistic practices to get upset is… a billionaire subsidized competitor in Blue Origin or Terran using anticompetitive pricing below cost to sneak in and steal market share. Cool. Hopefully Stoke and Rocket Lab win instead.

A Walmart charging network sounds great for road tripping. You can stop in, grab some snacks and go to the bathroom, and sometimes there are restaurants inside or in the parking lot.

Artemis is in an interesting place right now. It’s a bit of a mess. But it has a lot of cool and interesting parts.
Artemis 2 might launch in 2026 with 4 astronauts for a loop around the moon. Artemis 3 might launch this decade for a lunar landing with 2 astronauts aboard a SpaceX Starship lander. A lot needs to happen for that to work, like massive progress on the Starship program and Axiom space suits, and continued progress on Lockheed’s Orion capsule.
Artemis 2 and 3 aren’t givens anymore in the DOGE era, but they might still happen. A4+ rely on a new SLS stage from Boeing (EUS) and a new launch tower from Bechtel that are both running way over cost. Also in the mix is Lunar Gateway, a space station around the moon that isn’t really needed to get to the surface, but includes some different parts from international partners. So, who knows. We’ll see what happens.
