So eventually also useless for people like me who don’t have an account.
Yes, searchability is an issue. It’s partly how the big web search engines work, but I think it’s also partly that many people actively want to be excluded from web search (which is fine on the microblogging side of fedi, but it makes less sense here)

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•No, you can't keep your 20 year old dictionary password
3·2 days agoThe Plague: Someone didn’t bother reading my carefully prepared memo on commonly-used passwords. Now, then, as I so meticulously pointed out, the four most-used passwords are: love, sex, secret, and…

The Plague: god. So, would your holiness care to change her password?

Generally I play on OGS supplemented with IGS and Fox WQ. But I haven’t been able to run IGS official client on FreeBSD (and I have no knowledge of any unofficial clients), while Fox WQ unofficial client for Linux is possible to run on FreeBSD. So even though I’ve been aware of this, it only recently started annoy me as I play on Fox Wq more.
So much knowledge is going to be lost, honestly. And before people point out lemmy/kbin (and other Reddit-like fedi software), it’s still not comparable.
Well, that’s upsetting.
Edit: and the public API as well, I guess this might be the end of alternative frontends for Reddit (my only way to access Reddit these days)

Technology@lemmy.world•Amazon uses its tracking data to guess whether shoppers have a flat butt and no friendsEnglish
2·2 days agoOh, yes. I am sure the original point of making this information available in the first place is following some legislation. It’s just interesting how suddenly everyone’s talking about flat butt and other tidbits, (of course they are, it’s funny) so I wonder whether that was engineered to get this kind of response. Maybe I’m just too cynical these days.

Technology@lemmy.world•Amazon uses its tracking data to guess whether shoppers have a flat butt and no friendsEnglish
27·3 days agoThis kind of inferred information is useful for them (in some cases), of course. But I can’t help myself wondering if those more ridiculous tidbits are meant for viral marketing. They made everyone talk about Amazon (in somewhat non-negative way) again, right?
Eh, it was always crap. The same way all social media are crap, that is.
If they actually wanted to manipulate markets, they would use mainstream media.
