3·2 days agoMeaning well and blasting the rsync maintainer with absolutist anti-LLM messages are very different things.
…Which is why I specified those who only mean well. Obviously that doesn’t include the less pleasant crowd.

I’m just imagining someone saying this in response to OP’s joke at a party and this is the (natural) response

143·3 days agoFair, but a little empathy for rsync users who only mean well would go a long way. The everyone-for-themselves mentality doesn’t tend to be very helpful most of the time, if ever.

13·3 days agoI agree with that too, though I think the self-righteous attitude like that of the person I’m replying to swings in the opposite direction a little too hard for my liking. There’s a happy balance, y’know?
People shouldn’t complain in a dev’s ear like they owe them something they never promised, and people trying to call that out shouldn’t counter it with a demeaningly confrontational demeanour. Obviously that’s a lot to ask for on the internet, but it’s a good thing to try for at least.

262·3 days agoWell rsync is a pretty integral utility for a whole array operating systems/distros at this point, and I guarantee you that not all of its userbase has the expertise required for direct contributions. I don’t think it’s fair to write off the complaints of people like that as irrelevant, especially if they have a stake in rsync working well for them without having to worry about AI hallucinations screwing them over.

Yeah, they’re also implying that it’s on the commenter for not understanding that, despite them only trying to be helpful. It’s just petty and pedantic completely needlessly.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Carney would rather work with separatists than socialistsEnglish
21·4 days agoSure, but let’s not play ignorant to the role WW1 played in setting the stage for fascism to arise. Things are always more complicated then just “liberalism leads to fascism”, especially since theory only exists abstractly as opposed to the smorgasbord of circumstances in reality. I’m in no way denying the existence of that pipeline though.
Are you being intentionally dense? There’s no article, only video.

65·4 days agoOkay so you’re just being disingenuous then. You think poor material conditions (particularly from wide-scale conflict independent of liberalism) have absolutely no influence on the path a country takes?

Canada@lemmy.ca•Carney would rather work with separatists than socialistsEnglish
75·4 days agoThis is just silly and way too presumptuous. Fascism doesn’t arise from liberalism, it arises from desperation. Both Italy and Germany were in less than desirable positions after WW1, Italy being fractured and dissatisfied with the hand it was dealt after being on the winning side, and Germany being crippled with debt and teeming with government incompetency. Both Mussolini and Hitler were opportunists who would have in no way got as far as they did had either country been in a more stable condition with no need to find a solution. Liberalism really had nothing to do with it, like, at all.
