Get a fractal case, go to pcpartpicker for the rest… Get a gold PSU… Be sure to check on getting a motherboard-cpu combo that supports ECC RAM… Install a linux distro with proper support for zfs (e.g. I wouldn’t recommend Arch), perhaps TrueNAS Scale. Done :)

There’s a huge difference between the reasons for such a ban. This wasn’t a movie with political content antagonist to Lebanon government. This ban is probably to make a statement for both outside and inside the country. To show how normalized the violence against them is widespread in our media industry. I like it. And I’d like it more if they’d offer an incremental backup system that works over WiFi. That would be the mother of reparability. Just lost your phone? No problem, get a new one and get your backup with all stuff working right away (e.g. apps from government, banking, etc.)

Adding a high quality smart switch to a 5-year old battery might do some good, of course. But this is a cluster of old batteries, all in bad shape for many years of usage under different circumstances, temperatures, etc. And they’re all different models. Each battery will need a different time for going from 20 to 80%… it’s wild.

I do this kind of risk assessment on the worst scenario, a fire could turn your home into ashes. The only option to me, being strict, would be removing those batteries (after all, your main goal is to re-use the other hardware.) But that’s only possible in a handful of phone models… it’s just unfortunate. I guess I should get a FairPhone next time!
