Did players really expect that Dockside et al would be unbanned now that they felt like they had to include that massive explanation?

Man that is a such a better way to do UB, makes me sad that we didn’t get it that way.

This is an amazing post and I could not sign off any more on everything you’ve written here. I’ve felt similarly for a long time and you’ve articulated the exact same sentiments.

I have a visceral negative reaction when I look at UB cards or think about playing games with them.

I just simply do not want to sit across the table from all of these pop culture references or kids shows or even the crazy card frame treatments that aren’t even legible. It’s become a different game entirely and this is really the crux of it for me too.

Agreed on all of the power creep feelings too. To add on a bit, it has seemed to me that Wizards has undergone an intense campaign to do away with bad topdecks. Every draw needs to “feel good,” and ripping a Llanowar Elf on turn 9 or land after land “doesn’t feel good.” No Bad Topdecks has meant that every card has to be relevant early and late, which is why I think we see Kicker and its variants so much, or DFC lands more and more, or cheap cards with expensive activated abilities, or abilities that can be played after you cast the card, or just straight up two cards jammed into one all the time.

Yeah even with just this creature it reduces the cost by 3, its own CMC. Anything bigger is even more help.

I’ve loved cards like this ever since Urborg Panther and Spirit of the Night. Glad they’re still making them.

Yeah this really strengthens the Abuelo’s Awakening/Omniscience combo in Standard. This seems kinda crazy for the cost, Boseiju at least cost life though this does require you’re in blue.

Oh dang I totally misread that! I think I just assumed it tapped for all 3. Yeah significantly worse then, though I do still think it’s playable if you’re in these colors over a forest.

The green and black ones honestly don’t even look like eyeballs either. If you didn’t tell me they were dragon eyes I would think they were like briar patches.

If I’m reading Demonstrate here correctly you get to destroy two opposing permanents and an opponent destroys one of yours (or another player’s)? I guess it cleanly deals with permanents but the random cast seems like way too much downside.

Wow this escalates fast… casting 3 cheap spells the then after this enters play deals 15 damage. If they’re burn spells GG.

This definitely seems playable to me. A triland and then repeatable surveil 2 in the mid to late game is no joke.

Yeah I too think it’s overcosted for a flashback Shock but it seems like the Harmonize ability reduces the cost by the tapped creature’s power (not always {1}) which does help a bit.

Yeah does this not seem kind of “nuts” for a 1cmc common? I realize none of the abilities are that strong but for {w} you get a 1/2, relevant creature type, scry 2, and mana fixing that doesn’t require it to tap.
