If anything they’re getting more tourism after the camps. Obviously now they’ve evolved beyond just housing Salvadorans, but their initial installation made the country a lot safer (at the cost of authoritarianism and unfair policing. This is also why education and historical literacy is so important. If more people knew how that America is only successful because of (majority) socialist policies like the New Deal and Great Society then there will be more widespread support for a reinvigoration of them.

Yeah it makes you drive a lot slower which is inherently safer than drunk driving (even though you’re still under the influence). In my experience, I tend to have way too much fun drunk driving. High driving I’m either a little paranoid or chilled out so I’m driving safe. Drunk driving I get excited and do stupid shit.

I think those gilded age people were still basing their beliefs on a very old idea of what wealth is supposed to be. The elite of Ancient Greece and Rome who would often fund public works projects. The gilded age industrialists really wanted to show the rest of the world how powerful they were. America wasn’t the same global power it was today and they were proving to the “old world” that they could rival them in beauty and wealth.

Modern billionaires have started to realize that if they controlled the government more than their predecessors, they could make more money. Their version of public works, museums, and gardens is a restructure of their role in society so they can become kings.
