i’m guessing that i would hear the cheers and fireworks regardless of my state of consciousness, even in this maga red small town.

Linux and Tech News@lemmy.linuxuserspace.show•The end of uBlock Origin in Chrome is now weeks away, not monthsEnglish
12·13 hours agogoogle did play this long game pretty well… get mozilla on-board with webextensions format. get microsoft to adopt chromium for its own browser. use every trick in the book, legal or not, to gain marketshare. then start the rug pull. first: neuter the adblockers (we are here), next (and there will be a ‘next’) will be killing ad or content blockers and manipulators completely.

31·18 hours agothe one here was running the original firmware, probably factory original from asus. the board was on a ‘performance’ preset setting–and defaulted to that when i tried a bios reset to defaults. when i updated the firmware, that setting changed to a ‘normal’ one when i reset to defaults again.
i didn’t really dig into that too much because i knew it was already an rma case, but i think part of it had to do with boosted power draw. it still crashed on ‘normal’ and that’s what it was set on when i ran intel’s diagnostics (which took a few tries just to have it not crash before finishing with a result).

1·1 day agoprobably based on traffic patterns and volume, perhaps visibility plays a role too.
both are reason why the one in front of our office here does not have two crosswalks across the through street. people still do cross on the unmarked side all the time… but they’re idiots that don’t realize some traffic can’t see them until it’s ‘too late’… they get hit or the car that has to stop suddenly sits awkwardly in the middle of the intersection and becomes a target itself.

that wasn’t ike, though. those nutcases thought he was a commie.
a failure so spectacular, it lead to fdr, the new deal… republicans wouldn’t win the white house back until 1952.

8·1 day agowhen re-broadcast on television or cable, those older programs are often re-edited or literally sped-up (or a little of both) so they can have the current norm of 10-12 minutes of ad time per half-hour.

35·2 days ago4-day work weeks are great, especially if you have a significant commute, because you’re cutting 20% of that right out. the adding 2 hours to every work day, not so much; but the longer hours can mean that traffic is a bit lighter. the guaranteed week day off is huge when you have ‘stuff’ to do.
