  • Don’t count your chickens just yet. That recent ruling by the UK supreme court came under the UK’s so called “centre-left” party’s watch. Along with their prime minister shamelessly agreeing with it.

These people (politicians) are not to be fucking trusted until they’ve proven they can be trusted. If left / progressive / liberal governments around the world were actually effective at doing anything other than sitting with their thumbs up their asses and collecting bloated paychecks (and bribes / donations), we wouldn’t be seeing this rise of the right wing in the first place.

I would suggest waiting just a little longer to see if these people are actually legit or if they’re planning on ‘fighting’ the right wing by doing exactly what the right wing wants.

  • Lois Lane looking like the Superman the Animated Series version of Lois. I love it. Really hoping that we get an actually capable and kick ass version of Lois this time. My biggest complaint about live action Superman movies so far is that Lois always gets treated a little too much like a damsel in distress. Meanwhile she was telling Superman to F off and that she doesn’t need a man to help her back in the 1940s Fleischer cartoons already (watch the mouth breathers and “life long fans” all complain about Superman being turned woke if we get a version of Lois that actually has a spine).

I’m not saying that she needs to be a hardcore man hater or something, Superman and Lois are one of my all time favourite fictional couples. I’m just saying that she’s a lot more than just Superman’s girlfriend and should be treated as such.

One of my favourite scenes in Superman the Animated Series is when Lois gets kidnapped by some douche who then tries to get a little touchy freely. And off camera you hear the sound of someone getting beat up, followed by Lois saying “my daddy was a black belt.”

  • I used to use “man” in a gender neutral way a lot. Like “hey man” or “what’s up man”. Probably a '90s kid thing. But here’s the thing, it’s not about how I feel about the word. It’s about how the person getting called that word feels about it. So I’ve made a conscious effort to stop using it. It’s really not difficult to not be a selfish asshole.

These days, the only person I still say “hey man” to is my weed guy.

  • I think that unfortunately no amount of tweaking the sidebar or rules will help. People who come here and don’t realise the rules are probably jumping straight into individual threads from c/all and reacting without ever even visiting the front page of this community. You would hope that the fact the community is literally called “Women’s Stuff” would be enough to make these people reconsider jumping in to attack but here we are. I have a feeling that this is what every women-centric community has had to face on this platform so far.

Personally, it’s something that makes me still feel hesitant about chipping in with anything here, even though you’ve said non-binary people are welcome. Because there’s already enough people invading here and warping the purpose of this community, and it’s still early days with not enough activity from women yet as it is.

You’ve got something good going here though. And something that Lemmy needs. So I hope that you keep fighting off the riff raff and building this place up. Even just as a lurker, thank you for this space where I can read some good conversations with healthy insights (and pick up tips on dealing with sunscreen woes lol). It is highly appreciated.
