  • A lot of people seem homeless in Hawaii because it is a very high cost of living state. Most people struggle. It is not the place to choose to live if you are poor. Have you applied for public housing? It will take 4+ years to get housing that way, but that is the way someone who lives on social security is supposed to afford housing. That is good news because otherwise you would be fucked without social security + savings. For instance, I am not allowed to have more than $2k total of all of my assets or I just lose all of my benefits lol (there’s ABLE accounts but they are so restrictive you would have to put most of your money in a special needs trust that is expensive to setup. Plus all your money and assets gets taken by the state when you die).

A place like Hawaii will not have a lot of resources for the poor and disabled, despite what you think. Have you heard of Native Hawaiians being priced out of paradise (I assume you have since you spent 9 years there, so this is a reminder that this is the reality)? Many people end up leaving to somewhere more affordable. I understand you used to live what sounds comfortably in Hawaii, but in your situation I would have looked to somewhere more affordable, especially if you did not have HUD public housing already (which can be transferred state to state). Maybe you can brainstorm with your case worker about this. It does not have to be Thailand, but another state that is more affordable is what I would consider.

Edit: I used websites like this to find open section 8 waiting lists, hopefully this helps. Btw it took me 4 years to get public housing because I had to get on the waitlist to the waitlist which took a few months to open up and then 2 years on that until I actually made it on the actual waitlist and then 2 years on the actual waitlist to get approved for public housing.

  • Have you read the rules and guidelines? I am inclined to lock this until the other mods are active. You’ve broken quite a few of them.

    Rules and Posting Guidelines

    Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?

What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?

Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).

Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).

Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

    Rules

Post only about bans or other sanctions that you have received from a mod or admin.

Don’t use private communications to prove your point. We can’t verify them and they can be faked easily.

Don’t deobfuscate mod names from the modlog with admin powers.

Don’t harass mods or brigade comms. Don’t word your posts in a way that would trigger such harassment and brigades.

Do not downvote posts if you think they deserved it. Use the comment votes (see below) for that.

You can post about power trippin’ in any social media, not just lemmy. Feel free to post about reddit or a forum etc.

If you are the accused PTB, while you are welcome to respond, please do so within the relevant post.

  • I had surgery last week. Nothing major or serious, but enough to immobilize me during recovery. I am already disabled with chronic pain so having even more pain that made me unable to get out of bed or use the bathroom without help was rough. I have recovered to the point I am more independent and it feels good to push through recovery. I did a lot of sleeping and resting and am feeling much better than when recovery started. I am still going to be recovering for another week or so, but it does feel good to have survived all of this (so far). It also gave me an appreciation that my usual chronic pain could always be worse, to really appreciate the things I can do rather than linger on what I cannot.

  • I do not have personal recommendations for curling irons as I don’t use irons, but I will say you want one that has great temperature regulation (so it does not burn your hair which might mean paying more money). I picked up a second-hand dyson blow dryer a while back because of the temperature regulation on it, it never burned my hair but I did feel like it was hot even on low so I had to move it around a lot. You always want to use a heat protection product when using high heat (which curling irons, flat irons, etc. do). It should say it protects up to 400° F, I believe 266° F is the temperature when hair actually burns. I tried the CHI products and liked it, these products will generally have silicone or something else with low thermal conductivities to protect your hair. Look for something made for flat ironing.

I follow lab muffin a lot (this is her article on heat protectants), and it does seem like your hair will still get damaged this way. I use K18 which might help your hair feel less damaged, my hair is just naturally fragile so I use it. My hair is curly, I find that heatless curl methods make it more wavy but I am not sure if they work on straight hair.

  • Hi, I am the PTB that banned this user for 2 hours. As what was explained to you in the appeals channel, you’ve been trolling for months and when the person you troll gets mad, you report them for things like ‘incivility.’ You’ve done this many times to multiple users for months. That is why you were banned, not because of a specific thread and report. This was a warning to you to knock it off, as was explained to you.

It was not made known to other admins that you had contacted db0 in advance of making your account that you were using your account just to do things like this. It makes a lot more sense now why there was this leeway. I thought trolling other users was against the rules, but it seems the rules are muddy about it. We have often been warning people through 1 day bans to knock things off. So your timeout seemed appropriate.

  • Hates feminists. Shits on female celebs and drama around them but not male. Brings up how dumb all the women their age are a lot. Watches certain youtubers that are right-wing manosphere types. Common bs like men are logical, women are emotional, praises men for sleeping around but scolds women for the same, etc. Mention the gender pay gap and they say men do dangerous jobs while women only do cushy jobs as an explanation. Is a conservative religious type or says they are in the center / don’t like politics but when you mention an issue about women it is brainworms galore. If two women appear to take the same sides in an argument, it is only because they are both women. Talks shit/complains about women in a generalizing way.

    TW:SA

They say women lie about rape a lot and just by being accused, the man’s life is all over. Even when a man is found guilty, it is because everyone is biased and thus we should not believe women. Says rape statistics are overblown, etc.
