I think you are missing the point I’m trying to make. Glorifying a system can never be the answer. It isn’t for the US (as we can all prominently see right now) and it isn’t for China. Or any system, country, whatever. There will always be drawbacks and things you won’t know about. Keeping a critical eye on the status quo is the only way to develop a better future in any system. By just blindly praising it, it will turn sour at some point. The relatives you visited too will tell you about their daily troubles living within their system, if they have the feeling they can do that. Not american by the way. From a country that has a history of quite intense surveillance, if that gives you a hint. Maybe that’s part of what makes me critical after seeing the billion electronic eyes of Shanghai. A system that afraid of it’s own citizens can’t be perfect.
My washing machine is around 25 years old. Not giving it up till its absolutely done haha. But since parts are relatively available, it might just be a few more years.
Talk to people that live within the system is all I can tell you. I can absolutely understand the frustrations with the US, but China isn’t perfect either. The culture is less openly confrontational, but money still plays a very important role. Carrot on a stick goes a long way.
Well if you want a first hand account: I went to Shanghai with some friends recently, one has family and friends there, so knows the city. We went to the only lesbian bar in all of this huge metropolis. Note that I’m a guy. But due to being closed down before, the place seemed to be rather glad to have some euro faces in there, as a show for the cop car parked right in front of it the whole night.
My friend also told me, that the amount of beggars was really low this time, because they all got picked up and brought to somewhere else.
So all in all I think it’s an efficiently run country, but you don’t get around pushing some people out if you want efficiency. Humans are all different, if you want to consider everyone’s opinion it takes a lot of time (which China did not have in the last few decades). So some opinions are forced out rather brutally.
But, all in all: Go there, experience it yourself.
Nextcloud is integrated into OpenDesk :)
Does it work? I also have one and it was super easy to connect it to my router and use it. My wife likes to call me on it when my phone is on silent, hard to miss that ring haha.
Not OP and couldn’t see myself moving towards Libertarianism, but I can kinda see where OP is coming from. Germany does have a huge amount of regulations for almost everything. A lot of projects take far too long because there are so so many rules and laws to be considered. People working in administration got so used to that, that they tend to avoid responsibilities and hide behind rules and regulations (saying this as someone working in administration, trying to establish better digital processes, which tends to be quite frustrating). On an individual level, everything (except the Autobahn without its speed limit) is always made, so even the biggest idiot can’t hurt himself. Sometimes that ruins the fun for everyone else…
ASML. Dutch company and the one and only supplier of EUVL machines, requiered by TSMC to make their most advanced chips.
I can recommend Asphalte from France. https://www.asphalte.com/ Gotta bring some patience when ordering though. They collect orders and only produce those with a small overhead to cover returns, to avoid overproduction. Their style focuses on timeless stuff in good quality as to avoid trends. You can’t always order all their products, but some ‘eternals’ are always available to order (still have to wait until the next production cycle though). Now would be a good time to order summer clothing. My personal favorite are their sneakers as they look good and are very comfy and sturdy.
A lot of older people in Germany got their first email address with gmx or web.de (same servers, just different domains), so both of these platforms users are often targeted by spammers and scammers because of a possibly higher success rate. My FIL just last week almost lost control of his gmx and associated accounts. Though that was probably due to using the same password for multiple services, it is just more likely to happen with gmx than say posteo due to probabilities.
Spam also comes from the providers themselves, trying to push subscriptions to their premium services. If you want to access your inbox via browser and have an adblocker enabled you are forced to watch an ad.
If it works for you and if you use a separate password for gmx (or better yet, a password manager) and a different client, all good. I just think there are better options for people who are looking for alternatives right now.
Which belongs to 1&1, which belongs to United Internet, which belongs to Ralph Dommermuth, who is one of the 300 richest people in the world. Also GMX often is the target of spam and phishing. And if you want to access the web login you have to go through a shitty news page. Still better than gmail, but there are far superior alternatives. Sincerely, a former web.de user (which is the same shit with a different name).
Ah man sometimes I miss the keyboard on that thing haha.
Made in Prague. Got one when I visited a few years back. I really like the aesthetic and the webbing on the outside is super useful to pack extra stuff. Quality is also top notch, no signs of wear after quite heavy use yet.
Pinqponq is another brand of the same company: https://www.pinqponq.com/
Different company but also from Cologne, Germany: https://www.airpaq.de/ They turn old airbags into backpacks.
Regelmäßig, oder? Also Zähne, Kinn, bisschen Botox hier und da.
Disclaimer: Habe wenig Ahnung.
Starting to talk in moderate terms about how immigration might be far slower and more discriminating is the only thing that will rob the far right extreme parties of their saviour narrative.
That is what the CDU is doing. Have you taken a look at their program for the upcoming election? It is exactly what they want to do. The discourse has shifted for quite a while now. We are long past the point where you get called a Nazi for asking for slower immigration.
Does that change anything about the high number of people voting AfD? No. Because they want even simpler answers. They want to hear that brown people are the sole reason for most of their problems because it is always easier to blame one singular group/person/ethnicity, than to understand and change the systemic problems we all face in the times to come. I mean I get it. It’s scary to think about climate change, about unchecked capitalistic exploitation, about Russia, about China. And it is far easier to just blame someone for every hardship one faces. But it’s also fucking stupid.
Trying to pin the success of AfD on missing talk about immigration in other parties is just wrong at this point. It’s one of two major topics in the upcoming election. I’d seriously suggest to update your info. Your arguments might have had a point around 2015-2020, but those days are over.
Oh and also discrimination based on religion should and will never happen as long as democracy in Germany has any life left, as that would go against Article 3 of our constitution. That’s in there for a reason I don’t think I have to repeat here.
Put looting the east via Treuhand on that list…
