  • That’s the goal. Maybe I’m in an exceptional area, but I’m not aware of any parents who are effectively paying $10/day unless their income is low enough to trigger additional benefits.

Still HUGE improvement over the last few years though. I think we had an option for 18$/day if we packed our kid a lunch. Our daycare would feed them for an additional 3$/day. I think overall average care costs have practically halved in the last few years so even if it’s not perfectly universal and perfectly $10, it’s HELLA better. Strong improvement. Honestly a MAJOR factor in trying to figure out the feasibility of having more kids for us.

  • Easy mistake to make. Also words can not describe my admiration and respect for someone who can leave a comment like this up with a humble edit.

I might double check your math if we split the cheque, but unlike 99% of the people on the internet, I already can tell that I would WANT to have a supper with you.

  • You can be upset about 2 things: where things are, and where things are going.

It’s become very fashionable to ignore a trajectory. “Build 3 more prisons in El Salvador”.

The issue isn’t that at this moment I can opt-out. The issue is that the infrastructure inevitably demands usage.

    If you’re not upset you’re a collaborator.

  • Forget the “bloat”. Windows has an advertisements engine. I’m not talking about some stupid OEM bullshit bundled thing… I’m saying the operating system itself.

My OS (that I fucking paid for, no less) shouldn’t be piping me advertisements and it sure as shit shouldn’t be harvesting screenshots to train an AI model.

  • These would be perfect for it.

Also it was one an extremely early adopter of using websites for books. It was such a wholesome time on the internet. You could spend like an hour downloading a 3 second WAV file where the author welcomed you to the website. Blew my fucking mind.

  • On the flip side, anything worth doing is worth doing imperfectly.

100% of the population boycotting at 50% efficacy is much better than 1% of the population doing it PERFECTLY.

Never ever ever alienate or talk down to (or about) people who are acting in a way that is directionally correct, even if it doesn’t meet your personal standard.
