Comradeship // Freechat@lemmygrad.ml•in terms of political labels: what are you now, and what were you before you became what you are now?English
3·3 days agoapolitical -> Marxist -> Mostly Marxist-Leninist
I was pretty much apolitical and mostly focused on gamedev and video games in general rather than politics. I did however have some liberal tendencies due to both the gamedev scene and me being queer.
A lot of things changed me and for me after the 12 day war. I decided to understand the world and be more knowledgeable on politics, in short why do the things currently happening happen. Seeing that a lot of my countrymen didn’t show much concern about our country being bombed by the countries they ovulate for, I decided to question whatever they hate. One of those was and is “the left”, as they put it. Throughout all my life I always heard about how everyone hates “the left”. No one would say what “the left” in question actually believed in. The only thing everybody would repeat was that “they caused the revolution and took the freedom we had under Pahlavi”, “they were islamists”, “our lives suck because the Islamic republic is leftist”(!!!), ignoring how, in 1988, thousands of the same leftists were executed by the IR, and the rest had to escape, leaving the Iranian workers’ movement paralyzed (besides like a hundred more reasons). In short, they didn’t make sense, so I decided to find out the truth on my own. The communist manifesto, being as famous as it is no matter the amount of anti-communist propaganda, was my first choice. With reading it I started the journey that would make me a Marxist.
After I became a Marxist, I came to despise most pro-capitalist social media. Also since I had a little experience with lemmy after the reddit blackout (I’m not a redditor anymore) before moving to tumblr, I decided to take a look again to see if it has become more populated or not as I actually did like the idea behind it. This brought me into lemmygrad and eventually into the ProleWiki project which has since made me a more mature Marxist and a helped me become a Marxist-Leninist.

Ask Lemmygrad@lemmygrad.ml•Why is pornography illegal in China?فارسی
5·3 days agoWhile I agree that the commodification of sex is inherently bad, pornography itself doesn’t have to be a form of sex commodification. Unarguably It does exist under capitalism as a form of sex commodification and exploited as much as possible, having destructive effects on everyone that is involved in making and consuming it. However, one could argue that under socialism, with direct control of the party over media, as i assume is the situation in the PRC, pornography could theoretically transform into an artistic and educational form. It could be leveraged to spread healthy sexual practices and body positivity among people. Its potential positive effects shouldn’t be ignored.
As we all know, the curiosity of young people will have them cross paths with pornography sooner than a relationship. Now, would it make more sense to give the youth access to some sort of controlled or healthy pornography to safely explore sexuality or just have them access capitalist porn through an easily obtainable VPN?
The problem rather than being pornography as a medium, is actually of its content. It is the content which due to most of the pornography being produced in the global north, promotes the capitalist mindsets you mentioned. This can of course be heavily regulated/controlled in a socialist project.
I would also argue that addiction to pornography isn’t rooted in existence of pornography either; it is the result of unhealthy social relations or lack thereof within the addicted person, which is more the fault of a toxic norms in society or bad education/upbringing. (this is actually a way bigger subject which i can’t do justice at the moment)

Ask Lemmygrad@lemmygrad.ml•For religious people, how do you reconcile your faith with communism?فارسی
2·2 months agoHello comrade, something i would suggest is to not to go to her with these concepts directly. As someone who has debated (over)religious people and other prejudiced groups of people, most of the times speaking of such concepts (philosophical, political, etc.) can cause them to put their gaurds up and not agree on things even when it makes sense to them. Instead, I would suggest to take a more indirect approach. Recommend her some short stories, documentaries, or fiction that discusses such themes first. Maybe read/watch them together and then talk about it, analyse it. You could then in your talks bring up your analysis, shaped by dialectical materialism, anti-imperialism etc, which might make sense for her and might help her to question her prejudices herself, especially since she has gone through the emotional journey of the story, she will be less gaurded and more understanding.
