5·4 days agoI mean if we had piefed without a karma/reputation system we would get a true level playing field, reduced performative posting, more raw feedback and less censoring.
but on the other hand there would be too much noise, spam and bot flooding (since no reputation/karma), lack of trust and accountability.
Xitter for example has no rep system yet people still find a way to judge the quality of a post using the Ratio method (likes vs comments)
I like the principle of reddit and piefed expands on that and tries to come in with “common sense tools”
I think it’s really up to you to decide what is important.
Do you want a place for raw, unfiltered, diverse and equal expression? (à la Twitter) which comes with its set of negatives. Or a place that is organized, high-quality and “trustworthy” and its own set of negatives
I personnaly prefer an organized place but that’s just my opinion.
Edit: should have used Mastodon as an example instead of Twitter

7·4 days agoIt’s understandable to feel that way, but imo this is about basic internet etiquette rather than censorship. If I went to .ml and wrote a few sensible comments there I would quickly get a bad rep. It’s not perfect but it’s a far cry from censorship as well.

Another terrible sensationalist headline with nice double speech included.
Shame since the article itself is actually decent.

1·18 days agoYeah it seems my instance is acting up or it’s the piefed/voyager link. I’m saw a post on all that was recent and when I went down to comment I instantly got an upvote but it’s dead post from 4 months ago. Don’t understand exactly what’s going on there.
I fully believe you can manage them but I also believe it’s quite unnecessary for the reasons I stated before.
I’m also sorry to hear what you had to go through. It really makes this place toxic.

3·22 days agoYeah um I will have to disagree here. This is like letting Nazis come in here and discuss on why it’s necessary to kill Jews. After all this time expecting anything from them is the definition of insanity.
You moderate here and I respect your views on how to do things. But in my life I have learned that there is nothing to be gained from having the moral high ground. I’m tired of being held to higher standards than scum. They’re allowed to spew shit while we are not. This is a tit for tat situation.
I feel stupid writing this since I’m essentially sinking to their level but these people should be erased from the internet. There is nothing good that can come from them.
The main admin of my previous instance threw me under the bus when they came in and brigaded the instance. Started accusing me of lighting the fire when I made a post about defederation with the hex and grad (not even .ml bruh) and that it was my fault that they did what they did. Even while they were insulting mods and even the main admin HIMSELF and brigading the instance. I WAS STILL ASKED TO SHOW PROOF and I responded by saying why should I? They did exactly what I was trying to warn the instance about. I still provided proof but man that left a sour taste in my mouth after that.
The French are worshippers of « the moral high ground » and letting people explain themselves and then the leopards ate their faces.
Some did defend me but it was sparse.
I mean if you want them to come in here and embarrass themselves that would make more sense.
I don’t care what they think of us they should be silenced.

5·22 days agoI honestly just made the comparison from a perception point of view. Unlike Cowbee who sugar coats and inflates his arguments just to pretend that he can be swayed. He just just overwhelms anyone who tries to point out his lies. Goat on the other hand can be swayed and is honest. He Doesn’t try to overwhelm you, can be short and concise when necessary.
I have infinitely more respect towards a person who sometimes can lose it rather than propaganda mouthpiece who writes so much that he contradicts himself frequently enough to have a schizophrenic debate with himself.

Honestly I hate to admit that its thanks to LLMs that I have been able to fully switch to Arch the irony is that I actually end up reading more and understanding more about my system.
recently I had an issue where my Moza R5 Racing set up just stopped functionning. it turns out the drivers for it which I installed seperatly were now merged in kernel 6.18. I wasn’t aware of that at all and it’s actually the AI that made me aware of it. now essentially I had to uninstall the drivers and purge the configuration for it and reboot. it was a simple fix but I was doompasting commands into terminal from the AI and it was just going in circles eventually I actually had to figure it out myself.
I think that you actually still learn a lot from the AI about linux in general and since I used gemini pro for a month (now using glm-4.7 locally) which was up to date in terms of news and info.
Even though troubleshooting errors on linux with an AI can often end up in circles, I would have not have found out without the AI that the drivers for my niche sim racing rig on linux were merged into the kernel. I probably would have ended up doing a fresh install or a distro hop (most likely the latter since I always have issues with Arch).
if you are going to use llm, if you have a powerful enough rig then please try to run them locally. I did some AI assisted work with gemini (Google) and I find it genuinly creepy that if I ever ask it a question now it always tries to go back to my work even on unrelated topics, different chats and after prompting to stop or I will switch AI provider (I ended up switching in the end) it bugged me for two months then I switch to local.
I suspect it’s trying to get me back to work to analyze my data to serve google’s own interests but that would just be speculation right? RIGHT?
