Yeah…I honestly didn’t look where this was posted. The text alone didn’t quite make the privacy focus obvious.
We use Zoom at work and that is quite good. I used Teams, Jitsi, BigBlueButton and Citrix and so far Zoom has had the least problems (Citrix being a close second place). It also has clients for all major platforms and OS.
Their latest update greatly improved the chat functionality (in my opinion) and it is slowly replacing all other internal communication channels (mail/phone).
Nazi imagery? What? What the hell are you talking about?
The name comes from the French spelling of Ariadne, a Greek mythical character.
Deepl is the same company as linguee, which is a dictionary that shows you examples of the words in actual text, so you get the context.
“Software, or generally computation, can be categorised as a type of building material rather than a type of product in itself.”
I just don’t get why that would be a novel or helpful way of looking at it. If anything software is the tool you use to create something. Usually software is used to change and manipulate data in some way. So data could be your material (like marbel) and software could be your tool (like hammer and chisel). And heck…software development would be your blacksmith making your hammer and chisel and a compiler could be the blacksmiths furnace. That all makes more sense to me.
But I’m just some random Internet guy. Don’t take it personal. I guess it just ‘clicked’ in your mind and hasn’t in mine (yet).
This…is a weird analogy. A more fitting metaphor would be that software is a tool and data is the material. Depending on what you want to do/build with the material you have, you have to choose the proper tools.
And of course it can also be a product. Because of it is sold, then it is a product. I can go to the hardware store and buy a hammer. It is a tool for me, but a product for the store.
Thanks for the clarification. I would even say that I mostly agree with the sentiment. Immigration has been a pointless discussion for years now and I think no party (except the AFD) actually profited from it. SPD and die Grünen have both failed to disspell the AFD narrative.
That site is pure cancer :(
Well…I think you lost me. The really sudden loss of your job sucks, no matter what. I agree that a lot of people get laid off every day, but I feel sorry for them too. Employee protections in the US are also terrible compared to a lot of other countries. This situation is different, because it is so random, so far reaching and connected with a lot more insecurity. An ailing company may fire people…that is something you can see coming, but what is happening right now is just senseless and not very smart. A lot of things will break and in the end people will die, many people will leave the country and the economy will tank.
While I can only guess, I think he/she meant that all the stupid things the government has done so far should not have come as a surprise to anyone. They announced most of it and even the things they kept “quiet” were pretty obvious. So government employees could have searched for alternative jobs beforehand and kind of “brace for impact” and unions could have planned a coordinated response to bullshit firings. Lawsuits could have (and actually have) been prepared so that it would not take months to react to all the stupid stuff that’s happening now.
Or maybe I am completely wrong :)
Bold statement. Do you have any examples? I would disagree, but maybe I just don’t quite understand what you meant.
Your feeling for how much things will/should cost will be completely off. Some things will seem crazy expensive, while others are really cheap.
Others said it, but I’ll say it as well: Germans tend to be very friendly, but are not very open. It takes time for us to open up. In my experience, a lot of things (emotions for example) aren’t said directly but are said jokingly.
Germans tend to be direct and use short sentences. Something that can be answered with just one word, WILL be answered with just one word. That can sometimes seem like a harsh reaction to a simple question but really isn’t meant as such.
If you’re still in school, it can be very different from what you know. Same goes for university. There are a lot less activities at school (clubs), but that frees up time to do things outside of school. So you have to organize you free-time by yourself and you might just spend that with friends.
I guess you will also be walking more. This is totally based on my stereotype of American car-focused city building. The larger the cities are in Germany, the worse they get for driving with cars. All larger cities have a good public transport system and that naturally means that one has to walk more (to/from stations). I noticed that myself, when I moved from the countryside to the city.

It is stupid…
That turns them generally on or off. That setting was already toggle on. I turned it off and on again and restarted the app, but it didn’t show the message again.
As I said…i saw the changelog message and closed it. I just want to view it again.
