Not the person you’re responding to but if I wanted to turn an old Asus MeMO Pad 7 into something I could stream from my PC with, would you advise me to install Postmarket OS, LineageOS, something else?

It really is hard to find a job where you can go home at the end of the day and feel like what you did that day has benefitted the human race at all.

5·1 day agoYeah this issue seems to just keep going and going. Are there any South African users here that can comment? I get the feeling that this issue has more complicated origins than at first appearance, and some local insight might help.

World News@lemmy.world•France says Iceland has 'nothing to lose' in EU membership talksEnglish
26·1 day ago-
The EU shares territorial fishing rights across member states in a way that seems to make noone happy, except perhaps France, Spain and Portugal. One of the lesser-known (outside of the UK) arguments that Brexiteers made for Brexit was that the UK would regain control of fishing rights. When Brexit happened, France was insistent on hinging a large part of the negotiations on retaining fishing access to British waters.

Iceland is intensely protective of its territorial fishing rights… just ask the British.

16·1 day agoI’m excited at the prospect of Iceland joining, but I dunno how they’ll overcome the obstacle of the common fisheries policy.

It’d be interesting to hear how that worked…

2·1 day agoOh, is this not a spoiler thread? Sorry! I’m still used to how things worked on Reddit, and there, there’d be a spoiler thread and a non-spoiler thread. I guess here in the Fediverse we only have one due to low user count for now?
I just checked my other comment, and it doesn’t seem to spoil anything, but I was talking about the books, so not spoiling anything was just dumb luck. I’ll be more mindful going forward.

2·1 day agoMy question is what even is Tyland’s role in the story anymore? Why would the writers fake kill him off, to bring him back in a position where he can no longer play out his story from the books? What is his narrative purpose now? I assume the writers have a reason.
I think we all know that most people will go see both and it will be called DunesDay.

Marvel Studios@lemmy.world•Avengers: Doomsday | Official Trailer | In Theaters December 18English
11·1 day agoIn my opinion, this IS the momentum. This movie isn’t the conclusion, it’s the setup.
My predictions
___I think this movie is gonna be mostly AvX: Avengers vs X-Men. Doom’s post-credits sequence in First Steps is him giving the FF a warning that the multiverse is collapsing under its own weight after the creation of too many branches, and that’s when we get his dialogue in this trailer. He’s gonna tell them that worlds are colliding, and the only way to save your universe is to destroy any universe that starts to intersect with your own, but even that even that will only buy you time as another collision will eventually happen and you’d have to stay destroying universes constantly. The FF are gonna be idealistic and say “no that’s not how we roll” and instead they’re gonna go to the next universe they collide with - Universe 616 - and try to work together with the Avengers to save both universes. But then the X-Men universe is gonna collide in as well, destroying the universe the FF came from, and most of the rest of the movie is the Avengers and X-Men fighting each other to save their own respective universes.
Doom blocking Stormbreaker with a finger is gonna be the end of the movie: while the whole AvX storyline is going on, Doom will be like “pfft fine ignore my advice, Richards; I have another idea” and he’s somehow gonna track Loki down and steal his throne at the centre of the multiverse. Once he does, Thor’s gonna try to stop him and fail, and he’s gonna basically do his own version of the Thanos Snap where he destroys the multiverse but keeps the elements of various universes that interested him, and makes a single universe out of the pieces, called Battleworld. Tees Secret Wars right up.

3·1 day agoWell, even if he is leader, that’s likely to only last until Steve shows up. Until then, though, he does basically have seniority. Steve retired, Tony’s dead, Nat’s dead, Clint retired… it’s really just him and Bruce from the original squad, and is Bruce even in this one? Or is he retired now too? Ruffalo’s getting pretty old-looking at this point, and is nearly 60. I’d have to go back and check the cast list, but if he’s not in it, then it’s only natural that the rest of the Avengers would, to some degree, look to the only founder member left for leadership.

3·1 day agoI love that they talked about Meria Nymeros Martell, the Yellow Toad of Dorne. Eventually we’ll get Aegon’s Conquest and there is now no doubt in my mind that HBO intends to show us the failed Dornish campaign.
Elsewhere, we see the common refrain in history where river crossings are so much more crucial than people realize. And we see how House Frey re-learns the bitter lesson that people only care about them when they want to use their bridge, but once they’ve done so, all promises will be quickly forgotten. I’m sure it won’t make them bitter and suspicious. But we should probably rewatch Jace’s negotiation with them to see if he said “mayhaps”.
It’s kinda crazy how with a little gold Ormund was able to build, out of random peasants, a crack assassination squad, capable of slaughtering entire squads of gold cloaks in their very headquarters. I suppose if food is still scarce people will be desperate enough to do anything.
But it seems to me that perhaps this should have been a job for Mysaria - she’s supposed to be the one with her ear to the ground, but she’s spending all her attention on Alicent. She knew Blood and Cheese and had them in her pocket, so sniffing out malcontents and mercenary hearts SHOULD be right in her wheelhouse. A funny thing I’ve noticed: her accent is an exaggerated version of Varys’s, so I guess he hadn’t lost his Lysene accent as completely as he thought.
spoiler
The situation in the city is getting so dire that one wonders how Daemon will ever be persuaded to leave for Harrenhal, or even Maidenpool.
And we’re seeing Rhaenyra develop a bit of paranoia. That’s not good.
It was interesting to hear how both Aegon and Aemond both felt that Alicent loved the other one more. And hearing Larys finally snap and tell Aegon how insufferable he is was so satisfying.
Season Three has truly redeemed this show.

4·2 days agoOh I mean he’s definitely gonna head to the holodeck to jerk it, but he probably just uses a stock character. He seems in too much of a rush to feed a real person’s data into the computer and tweak the settings and everything. As we saw with Janeway and her Irish caricature guy, tweaking the settings is a long process.
