  • The future is unpredictable.

Western liberal democracy, once touted as the pinnacle of governance, is starting to swing towards reactionary thinking and economic stagnancy as the realization that the easy looting of the past 40 years is coming to an end. - The world has entered a state of flux - Out of that, however, I’ve seen a change in peoples attitudes as they realize that politics is not something they can ignore. Consider this: our enemies are making it increasingly obvious just how evil they are. Every time the chuds get the warm fuzzies from the latest truly heinous world event, somewhere, people are starting to realize that their liberal understanding of the world is very very flawed. Previously, I thought we’d just barely carry the torch through an age of stability, remaining fringe weirdos clasping the stale arguments of last century’s class-conflict.

Now I think that actually, people will find their way to aligning with us as they scramble to higher ground trying to avoid drowning in fascism.

Modern life can be extremely isolating, and that isolation will become dangerous in a world that keeps going the way it is going. Make friends. Build support networks. As the tide rises we will find new comrades. Be ready to find islands of safety. Be ready to help pull people to safety.

  • I haven’t read your whole post, but you’re probably right. Please note though, that folk are emotional creatures rather than strictly logical. Some people have been hurt by Christianity and they’re going to be rightfully distrustful or outright hostile.

But if we focus on what we have in common rather than our differences, we’re still comrades. People dunk on the new atheism movement as much as they do the Catholic church around here. We’re here for some same reason with different journeys and stories.

    Love thy fellow posters.

  • Once again, the traditional news media reporting I’ve been unintentionally exposed to on this strike mentioned nothing about the military personnel - but that level of propaganda is normal in the west. I’ve lost count of the number of times the BBC reports a strike on a hotel or a cafe only for their own videos to show injured military personnel and foreign mercenaries in the rubble.

This strike however seems uncharacteristic in it’s callousness, and seems unusually mean spirited from the Russians. Civilian casualties from the strikes have been pretty minimal so far in the war, other than the occasional Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile intercepting the side of an apartment.

Perhaps the terror drone raids the Ukrainians having been sending deep into Russia to target random civilian buildings have rekalibrated their tolerance for collateral.

  • I used to assume that, surely, it’s impossible for people to have beef with ace people. But, no, after making friends with a couple of ace people, I realized they get a world of shit not just from the usual suspects, but also catching intentional and unintentional flak from queer people on top of that.

And it seems to me that a lot of ace people just awkwardly put up with the abuse because queer people simply do not like being checked on the idea that they aren’t as accepting as they think they are.
