  • Yes that is true. Electricity in Germany is far more expensive than in France. But that is not because nuclear is cheaper than other renewables. France’s power grid is established, the reactors were paid for and built many years ago. In Germany on the other hand, they are actively adding new renewable sources so a lot of capital expenditure is underway. This is in addition to the fact that grid charges are crazy high in Germany and electricity taxes are higher as well

As you can see from this article (by the nuclear industry experts), the cost of adding and operating a new nuclear energy is way more than wind or solar. So it is clearly not the better renewable energy option.

Nuclear has a role in replacing coal and gas for cases where they cannot be replaced by wind, solar, etc. but it should not be replacing wind or solar projects. Hopefully we have a future where the grid is renewables supplemented with nuclear.

  • I just watched the race highlights (was traveling so couldn’tcatch the race). Nothing controversial about the penalty that max got. He was clearly behind piastri while entering the corner and hence piastri was not obliged to give him any space. The way people were talking about it, I thought they piastri tried to outbrake max from behind and pushed him out. Max has himself done this many times (gaining a slight but clear lead into T1 and pushing the car on the outside off the track when the guy does not yield), T1 Imola 2021 being a prime example.

Piastri keeps impressing again and again. Great start, consistent pace throughout and pulled off that daring pass on Hamilton because the situation demanded it. Verstappen too was impressive, bad start and grumpy mood notwithstanding. How he is inserting himself into what should be 2-horse title battle is impressive. Leclerc was also solid, absolutely maximizing that car.

  • The fact is the ‘best team’ or at least a team in contention to be the best does not need be great team - they just have to be better than the other teams.

Both PSG and Barcelona are not perfect and have some serious issues with their defences. Madrid and bayern are also struggling at the back because injuries have meant they aren’t able to control games. Arsenal have been pretty poor going forward. Inter is probably the most balanced side and are underrated because they aren’t exceptional at any one facet of their play.

While you make some good arguments as to why PSG cannot be considered as one of the best teams, considering current form, only PSG, Barca and Inter are candidates for that accolade and you will journalists make arguments for each of them

  • they are still miles from the complete package and far from the best team in Europe.

It is not like the best team always wins the UCL. There 3 instances since La decima (La Decima year included) where Real Madrid has won the UCL without even being the best team in Spain. Even Bayern during the treble year in 2012-13, the year when they trashed Barcelona 7-0 on aggregate and also beat juventus 4-0 on aggregate, barely scrapped past Arsenal on the away goals rule.

  • That was a great race. So many great performances as well - piastri with the dominant win, russell dragging the fast but buggy merc to 2nd, gasly being ahead of several of the big guns for most of the race, Yuki making it into the points in just his 2nd red bull weekend and Haas in general nailing the strategies with their drivers also executing.

The wheel to wheel racing was also insane. These modern cars are good for racing but now need wider circuits. The old circuits are unfortunately too narrow for these behemoths.
