4·1 day agoInfinity Train taught me this lesson. On top of going of the rails it can also just get canned. No thanks.
I’m still going to read Sword Art Online because I want to have stuff to talk about with my friend, but otherwise, yeah.

11·2 days agoIt was also a stupid thing to lie about, the guy complains about video games and Windows for a living, who cares if he is an engineer? I don’t know what he was thinking.
In regards to his technical advice, I remember it being fairly sound but it’s also stuff you can get from privacy communities on Reddit. You don’t need to be a software engineer or anything fancy to get this stuff, having a moderate understanding of technology is enough.
I learned about digital privacy from a DuckDuckGo ad and went further down the rabbithole by joining the privacytools subreddit (I think they are called PrivacyGuides now). It’s not hard, infact it’s very easy since people working on them are idealist so they made everything as easy to understand as possible.

24·2 days agoHe is, he is also a sloptuber. He runs a by the numbers commentary channel that mostly discusses whatever else everyone is discussing that day. Or does a stealth Linux installation tutorial when there is absolutely nothing to talk about.
His videos in regard to free software and online privacy have some merit, but for the most part there is no point to his channel at all. You’ve seen all these videos already.

3·4 days agoYou could check out The Horse, The Wheel and Language then. I didn’t finish it but the parts I’ve read were fascinating.

5·4 days agoNon-Marxist in general, or non-marxist non-fiction specifically?
I like them too but it’s just not worth it. In Western animation it takes forever for a show to air, there is very few to choose from and they are subject to corporate crap every step of the way. And most Japanese animation I’ve seen is cheap and / or tropey junk.
Making a book is cheap enough that the author has way more free rein to do what they want, even if they are dealing with a commerical genre. And there are so many books to choose from and more of them keep coming out so you’ll never run out of material, the worst that could happen is you get into an ongoing series and it doesn’t finish. To me that means the tradeoffs border on irrelevant.
Oh I watched the first three seasons of Infinity Train already, the whole shitshow that followed made me give up on animation entirely. And seeing the state of animation these days confirms that I’ve made the right call in my opinion.
Just read (comic)books people, books are just better.
No, he is fine as far as I’m aware. But he didn’t get to create anything after Gravity Falls, he was working on something with Netflix but nothing came of it. I’m not aware of anyone besides Dana Terrace who made a successful cartoon in recent memory and managed to move on to a new project. Western animation is cooked.

Ask Lemmygrad@lemmygrad.ml•Why did British Trotkyists waste so much time with entryism?
41·6 days agoIt seems like British communists largely destroyed themselves anyway, so I don’t know to what extent Trots were necessary for this.
Lol, didn’t even notice that.
On a side note, imagine making Gravity Falls and never getting to work on another show again. We don’t push pro-comicbook propaganda to animation workers hard enough.

GenZedong@lemmygrad.ml•China has billionaires and stock markets. Is it still socialist? (spoiler: yes)
4·7 days agoI get what you are saying, but you are critiqueing dogmatism. That is a seperate problem. Dogmatism is being closed minded towards newer theory / tactics and strategic retreats. Revisionism is the abandonment of class struggle and integrating into bourgeois politics.

In the antabellum South within the USA it was argued that slavery would protect the country from Socialism, and apparently this was before Marx. Even when our movement was just a concept it terrified the ruling classes.
