I’m a cool little dude from the future (born 2203)

doctor’s keep telling me to lose weight but idk i like eating treats. my health is definitely suffering, true, but treats are good so waht’s the problem really. doctors are silly
it is real though and anyone who says otherwise isn’t a leftist
But also if it’s an ocean planet and doesn’t have a dense iron core, it’s gravity won’t necessarily be greater than the Earth’s
Honestly like all of the news/content I see on the DPRK is pretty fucking positive lol (albeit I don’t see it that much and overall I would say I don’t know much about the country/culture).
I could see my comment being counterproductive in the sense that it seems like something a concern-trolling lib might say, so I’m sympathetic to the idea that I should have just not posted it. I guess I figured this was a leftist enough space that people wouldn’t take my comment in bad faith, but I feel like that’s what you did. Because, while I did admit that maybe this is just some cultural difference or something I’m not aware of (and not some sinister evil government plot) - you saying you can find 1000 pictures of cities in the west like this genuinely surprises me.
Like… I’ve lived in regions that look a lot like this, in terms of building size and everything. Places where streets are frequently shut down for events. But usually, such events attract stragglers at the borders, usually there’s lots of people coming and going. This is all just what I’m used to seeing and I’m not trying to apply some sort of value judgement to that but I am nonetheless surprised by your claim that this happens all the time in the west because, frankly, I don’t think I could produce one similar picture if I tried. If you want, you can dig some up for me, but I’ll take you at your word that you’ve seen this a lot. I guess I just haven’t?
Well yeah but I live in a city that has events too and usually the rest of the roads are not just shut down and devoid of people. Hell I’m not ruling out that I’m being ignorant and this is just some cultural thing but I’m just saying it looks kinda surreal to my eyes
It does look kinda weird to me in that first pic how empty the streets are outside of the rectangular borders of the crowd. I think I see one other person along that main street?
naahhh, this is just media hyperbole. Not even the republicans would ignore the parliamentarian, that’s just beyond the pale.
lent an unhoused person my phone yesterday to call local shelters and see if they had any availability, which they did not. He asked me where else he could go and my only other suggestion was a homeless encampment. But he didn’t have a tent of a sleeping bag. It got down to -18C (0 F) last night.
i’m drinking today
is it a tent situation primarily or are there other structures that can more readily be insulated?
A mix of both, but probably mostly tents. I think the generator provides electricity to multiple tents so that’s the main advantage, plus it being the only option really for folks who don’t have wood stoves at the moment.
There are certain design principles necessary for a rocket stove to be a rocket stove
Yeah honestly I don’t think a rocket stove is actually what I meant to discuss here anyway. It might have been a rocket mass heater that we were discussing, although we also discussed trying to employ ondol heating which might be a bit easier.
Admittedly, I need to read more on the pros and cons of all of these options. Just wanted to check with people here to see if there was anything else I should explore - or if people have had experience with these projects in the past, what pitfalls to avoid.
Thanks for your taking the time to write this all out, it’s helpful.

If they make Italian cuisine a World Heritage Site before they declare video games to be a World Heritage Site I’m gonna be so pissed
I think it’s actually cool and good to judge historical figures through a modern moral lens, and we should do this more often
i love downloading textbooks for free and i can’t stop doing it. i’m scared libgen will be gone one day so i’ve compulsively saved ~4000 textbooks lol. gonna go do some more
oh hey, i’ve been doing this too. it weirdly is fun for me, at the moment. i think mostly cuz for the past 3 years, i’ve been telling myself “i really need to lose some weight”, but i could never sustain it for more than like 2 days, cuz i love eating food so much. but somehow something flipped in my brain and i’ve been sticking with it for 2 weeks now. i don’t even really feel hungry? i hope i don’t have a tumor or something.
i wanna quit my engineering job and go to school to become a doctor instead. or maybe just a nurse or something like that. idk, i’ll just do whatever the first person who responds tells me to.
Hexbear is a little weird/embarrassing
Anyone have recommendations on what I should read as a per-requisite to understanding Baudrillard’s Simulation & Simulacra book? It looks way too cromulent for me as someone who’s read very little philosophy.
I keep hearing about the book though and the concepts seem tantalizing to me, at least as read on Wikipedia. I’d love to engage with the actual text
actually y’know what I’m stupid, saw another article about this today and it finally clicked to me that this news story is literally about thousands of new housing units being built so this neighbourhood could very well be unpopulated at the moment. that might explain the empty streets lol (and also why this never happens in the west)
