  • Nah, it wasn’t bad at all. The whale extinction plot was to raise awareness of the discovery of whale intelligence and to spark resistance against the immorality of whale hunting. Perhaps it was a little hamfisted, but Star Trek was always woke as hell.

Star Trek has never shied away from telepathy, so it wasn’t much of a stretch to have the whales in contact with a powerful alien intelligence elsewhere in the galaxy. It wasn’t the lack of whales that caused ships to shut down and Earth’s weather to whip up hurricanes, but rather the overwhelming energy field of the probe the aliens sent to investigate the silence.

All that and it somehow managed to showcase an absolute banger punk song raging against nuclear holocaust.

And they made it a comedy.

    I love Star Trek IV.

The one on the left is probably bigger. That’s not a photo of a great white, but an artist rendition of a megalodon.

Would it win though? I have doubts. Especially in light of the macroraptorial sperm whales like Livyatan. But I’d never bet against a pod of orcas vs almost anything.

LoL nah. Good parents might, sure. Bad parents just think they do, while projecting themselves onto their kids. I’m pushing 50, and my parents have never understood me at all. Even when I open up and try to explain my perspective today, they take offense, declare it as rebellion against god, and simply refuse to think about what I’ve said. There is no helping them.

  • Bullshit. When the established power base forces millions of lives into destitution, revolution is the only acceptable solution. After which you change your government to benefit the people. Communism wasn’t the problem. The problem is Russia has had a cultural obsession with strongmen for centuries. That was their problem under monarchy, under communism, and now under capitalism.

In fact communism was the best thing that ever happened to Russia. They used to be peasants. They improved literacy, their industrial capacity, and built a middle class. They beat America to space. But they just couldn’t find it in themselves to overthrow strongmen, and that is why they suffered.
