From all the reporting I’ve read CECOT is significantly worse than the Japanese internment camps. What America did to Japanese Americans was cruel and unjust, and I wouldn’t say conditions in the camps were good, but CECOT seems to be on a whole other level. Prisoners are confined in crowded bunk rooms, outside time is limited to one hour per day, and physical violence from the other prisoners and the guards seems to be the rule rather than the exception.

Those books are so goddam good. I need to find copies and reread them.

I had a thought recently that could maybe make health insurance a little more fair here in the US. If we required the people who approve or deny claims at health insurance agencies to carry malpractice insurance and allowed them to be sued for medical malpractice when their claim denial led to adverse health outcomes, we could (maybe) make them think twice about denying claims.

Obviously trying to help people isn’t a functional incentive for them, but maybe not getting sued would work.

Also as far as I’m aware it wasn’t a fully 3d printed gun, rather a 3d printed lower for a Glock. The lower doesn’t have to handle anywhere near the levels of pressure that the upper does, so is unlikely to break when firing.

If half of a percent of the people who voted for trump are the same kind of violent crazy as the ones who stormed the capitol that’s hundreds of thousands of them across the US. I feel like that’s a pretty significant number one way or another.
