I’ll take [action for slim chance of success] over [inaction for guaranteed failure] every time.
I don’t get all these “geo-engineering” magic bullets. Capitalists are taking carbon out of the ground and putting it into the air and oceans. The carbon in the air leads to warming, and the carbon in the ocean leads to acidification. Both of these things are disastrous. We need to stop the capitalists. Leave the carbon in the ground, where it belongs. Simple as
Awesome! I wouldn’t call this “releasing moisture” though which, to me, implies a physical change. It’s straight up providing the activation energy for a chemical decomposition.
Of course! I overlooked the medium which, as you’ve well explained, lends itself nicely to exposition. I very much enjoyed reading your reply, learning about the advantages of writing for games. Thank you
I wonder if any judge/jury is going to find the large oil conglomerates liable for trillions in damages.
Liable for destroying our world (and for what?)
I’ve started a rough website for my indie/smol/fedi/etc web presence, linked in my profile.
Cool! I’ll check it out.
Thanks, @grrgyle@slrpnk.net, for taking the time to organize this club! I really appreciate it.
I’m a sucker for well-researched hard sci-fi!
Have you found it challenging to expound these concepts without detracting from the rest of the text? Additionally, have you discovered any differences in writing technically as opposed to narratively?
I look forward to learning how you typeset your non-verbal communication, as well as discovering this form of communication in your story.
On another note, I hadn’t given much thought to how switching everyday between editing and drafting, as opposed to seldomer, could slow one down. I recognize now that I systematically get bogged down by my habit.
This month I hardly began progress on my thesis before having my heart broken. I’m trying to get back into the habit of writing daily, but some days I can hardly focus on a single sentence for more than a few minutes.
Perhaps I can write about the breakup. Maybe that will help.
Edit: It’s been relieving to read through everyone else’s updates. I’m not going to set a goal for the next month, it seems to daunting to me right now. I’ll write back soon.
Well, seeing as today’s the last day of February, I should update you all on what I’ve done and what I’d like to do. I’ve progressed on my thesis. I’ve also started writing a story. I don’t know how long it will be, though.
It’s about a stable boy who dreams of becoming a knight. He falls in love with the Count’s daughter.
I’m tackling themes of persistence despite the certainty of failure. I believe the theme somewhat resonates with Solarpunk. Indeed, as we all know, recent efforts tackling the climate crisis are more about harm reduction than preventing harm outright.
I remain doubtful, however I hope this pitch will lead to spades in the ground.
Your writing discipline is commendable! I myself have been struggling with working on my thesis. It feels like a chore. I’d rather write anything else, but can’t overcome the guilt of deviating from my duty.
Consider checking out /c/writing , where aspiring and seasoned writers/solarpunks discuss their craft.
I love this guide! It’s full of details I never would have thought of if asked to prepare a food-sharing before reading it. It’s also a quick read. Concise and informative.
Thanks for your questions!
I’d like to make my writing more valuable for readers by, among other ways, writing more clearly.
As for the essay, I’m not quite sure yet what to write about. I have a few little ideas pinging around in my head, but I don’t know if any of them are worth fleshing out.
The skill of planning, if well honed, is invaluable in writing works that stand the test of time, I think. I reckon I use my plans like maps who’s traces of roads I use to plan stops in my text. I try to make sure that the reader’s view at each of these stops is worth the travel.
Hi everyone! I’m going to have to submit my master’s thesis by the end of the year. I’d like to improve my writing substantially before sending off my final draft.
This month, I’d like to write a short essay or a short story. Get the ball rolling and all.
I’m glad Emma Roth, the author of the verge article, included a resource listing alternatives to the challenge: https://hcpl.net/blogs/post/alternatives-to-nanowrimo/
